영문 초록

Objects and Methods : To investigate the characteristics of the outcom evariables for chronic schizophrenics, we rated 19 outcome variables of 80 chronic schizophrenic patients subgrouped according to sex, socio-econom ic status, duration of illness an d hospitalization. And we comp ared the outcome scores of each subgroup and exam ined intercorrelations among the outcom evariables in each subgroup. Results :In male patients ‘duration of hospitalization’ were significantly longer and the level of occupational functioning and economic self-support were highly intercorrelated with other outcome variables. But ‘Approximate % of time with any symptom ’ was significantly higher in fem ale patients. ‘Frequency of social contact’ was significantly higher in the patients whose duration of illness was less than five years than those whose duration of illness was more than ten years. In the patients whose duration of illness was less than ten years, the level of social contacts was correlated with several outcom evariables. Although ‘Number of hospitalization per year decreased with the increm ent of the duration of illness, ‘Duration of hospitalization during the last one year’ was significantly longer in the patients w hose duration of illness was more than ten years. Out-patients group showed significantly better results in most of the outcom evariables than in-patients and the level of social contacts was highly intercorrelated with other variables. GAF was seemed to reflect mainly psychiatric symptoms and occupational functioning of the chronic schizophrenic patients. The factor analysis of 19 outcome variables yielded 4 factors such as psychopathology, interpersonal relation, hospitalization and treatment course. Conclusion :In study of the disease outcome of chronic schizophrenics, the characteristics of the subjects should be considered because the m eaning of the outcom e variables is significantly different according to the characteristics of the subject group.
