영문 초록

For too long we have received unstructured music education. Regardless of whether the fault lies with us or with others, the fact is that we have not held in relative importance the noble musical inheritance our ancestors left to us. The writer feels that as we enter into the 21st century, the lack of structure and concern for music education must not go on in this manner. Therefore, the writer feels the need to carve the originality and beauty of Korean tradition music (Kukak) into the hearts of the future generations and those in connection with music. The purpose of this study is to suggest alternatives for a music education that is a balanced and full of substance because the present condition of the music education system is biased towards Western Music. Therefore, as the method of study the historical fact of Korean traditional music was examined from a theoretical standpoint and observed that Kukak flowed proudly along with the destiny of the nation. By looking at Korean traditional music s transitional phases of change from ancient times, the three kingdoms period and Koryo period, to the Chosun period until after the liberation, allusions to the persistent vitality of Korean traditional music and the importance of our traditional music, which went hand in hand with our people, were made. And suggestions for the need of a better educational system concerning traditional music in the 21st century were made by referring to the traditional music education systems of various nations. For this study 24 theses were selected from among doctoral and graduate theses related to music education based on surveys which reflected the present condition of traditional music education teachers. Through categorization and calculation of questions, necessary for traditional music education, the past 20 years of the condition of the traditional music education system was observed from a statistical viewpoint. The result of the analysis of the theses is that, on the whole, the perception of the current educators in traditional music is sound and developmental. Also, by addressing the problem points of the and the problems of the present system, the writer presents this study as a suggestion in hopes of seeing a balanced educational system for the future. The results of this study were as follows: First, the majority of the majors of current music teachers is Western Music. Their knowledge of Kukak is substantially insufficient; thus, making Kukak education impossible. The Kukak education of these teachers who majored in Western Music must be reinforced. Second, for the sake of teaching traditional music during early education, it is absolutely required that courses in Kukak be completed during the training period of kindergarten teachers, that is, during their early educational studies. Therefore, courses in Kukak must be established in the curriculum of the early education programs of 4 year colleges and technical colleges. Third, the study and training of current music teachers must be reinforced because the Kukak program for the improvement of Kukak knowledge of current teachers lacks diversity. Fourth, the relative importance of Kukak in the majority of music textbooks is very low and because the ratio of Kukak to Western Music is not equivalent, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High school textbooks must be compiled in a balanced ratio. Fifth, the need to supply Kukak audio/video materials and resources to Elementary, Junior High and Senior High schools is urgent. Sixth, competent Kukak majors are not able to stand in the classrooms and in many cases are left out.
