영문 초록

The authors studied the clinical characteristics of 281 psychiatric patients who had visited the emergency room of Chonbuk National University Hospital from Jan. 1 1988 to Dec. 31 1989. The results were as follows : 1) In patients with over sixties, it was found that there was a increasing trend of visiting an emergency and admission to psychiatric ward via emergency room. 2) The admission rate was higher in the consultation cases from other department than in the report cases from duty intern. 3) Among the consultation cases, the proportion of the cases from the department of internal medicine was higher than those from the other departments. 4) The admission rate was higher in males than in females. 5) The admission rate was found to be higher in farmers and lower in housewives. 6) Somatic symptoms were more common in females than in males. 7) The rate of suicidal attempts was higher in females than in males. 8) The admission rate was found to be high in patients who had behavioral problems and low in patients who had somatic complaints. 9) The admission rate was found to be high in psychotics and low in neurotics. 10) Precipitating factors were found to be more common in females than in males. 11) Domestic problems were most frequent precipitating factors both in males and in females. But, economic and occupational problems were second most frequent precipitating factors for males, which were different from that of females, whose second most frequent precipitating factor was marital problems. 12) The admission rate was high in patients who had environmental changes, conflicts with friends or relatives and low in patients who had marital problems or domestic problems.
