영문 초록

The pain sensitivity was studied in 19 subjects with major depression diagnosed by D SM-f criteria by measuring the pain threshold and the pain tolerance by means of submaximum effort tourniquet technique. The control group was 38 normal subjects. The results were as follows： First, the depressives were more insensitive to pain stimuli as compared to the normal controls, and the subgroups of the depressives as subdivided according to sex, agitation-retardation and the presence and absence of associated pain symptoms showed significantly more insensitive responses as compared to the respective control groups matched for sex and age. Second, the pain threshold of the depressives without associated pain symptom was significantly increased in comparison to that of the depressives with pain symptom. Third, no difference of the degree of self-reported subjective depression was noted between the depressives with pain symptom and those without it.
