영문 초록

In order to investigate the structural abnormalities in pervasive developmental disorders, twentytwo children with pervasive developmental disorders underwent computerized tomographic brain scanning at Department of Child Psychiatry of Seoul National Universty Hospital. Initially, the images of the patient’s scans were interpreted by a diagnostic radiologist, who was blind to the diagnosis, and later, reinterpreted by the same radiologist and the author. In order to evaluate the severity of symptoms, Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) designed by Schopler and Reichler was also used. The results are summarized as follows; 1) 31.8 percent (7/22) of the scan series revealed clear abnormalities. The abnormal findings were agenesis of corpus callosum (2 cases), asymmetry of lateral ventricles (1 case), bilateral lateral ventricular dilatation (1 case), cerebellar atrophy with arachnoid cyst on occipital convexity (1 case), arachnoid cyst (or cysticercosis) of parasylvian operculum (1 case) and widening of Sylvian fissure (1 case). 2) There was no significant relationship between computerized tomogaphy scan abnormal group and normal group in CARS. Although the relationship between these abnormal findings and specific symptom clusters of pervasive developmental disorders remains unclear, but we can suggest that these abnormal fingings could be associated with pervasive developmental disorders, and reinforces the current conception of heterogeneity of pervasive developmental disorders.
