연민확장성이 연민붕괴에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 연민확장성이 연민붕괴에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 하였다. 연민확장 성은 연민의 대상이 가족과 같은 좁은 대상을 넘어 잘 모르는 다른 사람이나 존재로 까지 확 장되어 있는 정도를 말한다. 연민붕괴는 연민대상이 늘어나면 연민심과 도움의도, 도움행동이 감소하는 현상이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 연민붕괴가 연민확장성에 따라 달라질 수 있음을 보여주고자 했다. 전체적인 연민수준이 높은 대학생 중에서 연민확장성이 높은 집단과 낮은 집단을 구성해서 연민대상의 수(1명, 8명)에 따른 연민심과 도움의도, 도움행동을 측정하는 실험을 하였다. 연구결과, 두 집단 모두에서 연민대상의 수에 따른 연민심과 기부의도의 차이 가 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 기부행동의 경우, 저확장성 집단에서는 연민대상수에 따른 연민 붕괴가 나타났지만, 고확장성 집단에서는 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 가까운 사람들에게 제한된 연민의 경우, 심리적인 연민심과 도움의도가 행동과 덜 일치하지만, 대상에 따른 연민 심의 차이가 적은 확장된 연민의 경우는 심리적인 연민심과 도움의도가 실제 행동과 더 일치 한다는 것을 의미한다. 연민의 대상을 확장하는 자비명상과 같은 수련이 이타행동에서 나타 나는 연민붕괴를 억제할 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다. 끝으로 본 연구의 제한점 및 연구의 의 의를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Compassion extendability refers to the degree to which the object of compassion extends beyond a narrow object such as a family to another person or being that does not know it well. Compassion collapse is a phenomenon in which compassionate mind, help intention, and helping behavior decrease as the object of compassion increases. In this study, we tried to show that this compassion collapse can be affected by compassion extendability. Among the college students with high level of compassion, they were composed of high and low compassion extendability groups, and they were tested to measure compassionate mind, helping intention, and helping behavior according to the number of the object of companions (1, 8). As a result, there was no difference in sympathy and donation intention according to the number of compassion objects in both groups. However, in the case of donation behavior, collapse of compassion by the number of compassion objects occurred in the low extendability group, but not in the high extendability group. This result suggests that psychological compassion and intention to help are less congruent with help behavior among people who s compassion extendability is low, but not in case of high compassion extendability people. And more. It is suggested that the training like loving-kindness and compassion meditation which extends the object of compassion may suppress the collapse of compassion in the action. Finally, limitations and implications of the study were discussed.
