유아의 가정환경자극이 사회적 유능감에 미치는 종단적 영향: 언어․인지 발달의 매개효과*

국문 초록

이 연구는 유아의 가정환경자극, 언어․인지 발달 및 사회적 유능감 간의 종단적 관계를 검증하고자 하 였다. 이를 위해 육아정책연구소에서 실시한 한국아동패널의 5차, 6차, 7차년도 자료의 유아 총 951명을 선택하였다. 기술통계, 신뢰도 및 상관관계를 분석하였으며, 최종적으로 구조방정식모형분석을 실시하였 다. 이 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하고 논의하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아버지와 어머니의 교육수준이 유아의 가정환경자극에 미치는 영향을 통제 한 후, 만 4세 유아의 가정환경자극이 만 5세 유아의 언어․인지 발 달에 미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의했다. 둘째, 만 5세의 유아의 언어․인지 발달은 만 6세 유아의 사회 적 유능감에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 만 5세 유아의 언어․인지 발달은 만 4세 유아의 가정환경자극 과 만 6세 유아의 사회적 유능감 간의 관계에서 유의미한 간접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이와 같은 결과는 유 아의 가정환경자극이 사회적 유능감에 미치는 영향에서 유아의 적절한 인지․언어 발달이 중요한 역할을 함을 시사 한 결과로, 관련 논의와 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The study examined the longitudinal effects of home environment stimuli on the linguistic and cognitive development and social competence of young children. The study used data from 951 young children from the 5th, 6th, and 7th wave of the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC). Data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, Cronbach alpha and correlation; the hypothesized model was verified using structural equation modeling analysis. The results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, home environment stimuli at 4-years-old significantly predicted better linguistic and cognitive development at 5-years-old when the effects of parents’ educational attainment levels on home environment stimuli were controlled. Secondly, there was a significant influence of high levels of linguistic and cognitive development at 5-years-old on positive social competence of 6-year-olds. Lastly, the linguistic and cognitive development at 5-years-old had a significant mediating effect in the relationship between home environment stimuli at 4-years-old and social competence at 6-years-old. The results of this study highlighted the importance of timely linguistic and cognitive development as a mediating factor in the connection between home environment stimuli and the level of social interactive skills. Other related implications of these findings and suggestions for future research are also discussed.
