영문 초록

The authors have attempted to study the effect of antipsychotics on serum prolactin levels and the relationship between serum prolactin levels and extrapyramidal symptoms. Surbjects were 25 schizophrenic patients admitted to the Neuropsychiatric Department of Inje Medical Collage, Paik Hospital, Seoul, from Feb. 1987 to Jul. 1987. Subjects were given antipsychotics equivalent to chloropromazine 300mg/d, which were increased same dosages every other day until it reached to 1200mg/d. Serum prolactin levels were measured before medication and at the interval of 2,4,6,8 days after administration of antipsychotics and at the time extrapyramidal symptoms occurred, through the methodology of Doubleblind radioimmuno assay. The results are as follow ； 1) The serum prolactin levels before initial medication were within normal ranges in both male and female. 2) The serum prolactin levels measured during medication increased, but there was no significant differences between male and femal groups(p>0.05). 3) Serum prolactin levels of the low potency group was higher than those of the high potency group, when the equivalent dosage was given, but statistically significace was reached only when the dosage was above 900mg/d (p〉0.05). As medication dosage increased, the serum prolactin levels in both low and high potency groups showed a positive correlation ; Low potency ♦ Y = 24.21+9.81 X (r •• 0.886)，High potency • Y= 23.81+7.51X(r ： 0.845). 4) Serum prolactin levels measured at the onset of extrapyramidal symptoms showed no positive correlation but high potency group, compared to the low potency group, showed lower serum prolactin levels and earlier extrapyramidal symptoms onset(p<0.05). The overall results showed that as antipsychotic drugs increase, serum prolactin levels increase also but the relationship between serum prolactin levels and extrapyramidal symptoms was inconclusive.
