노년 여성 결연 설화에 나타난 성(性) 담론 양상과 의미

국문 초록

본고는 구비 설화 자료 가운데 노년 여성의 결연(또는 결혼)과 관련한 욕망이 드러나는 이야기를 대상으로 욕망 표현의 양상과 의미를 살피기 위한 것이다. 노년 여성 결연과 관련한 설화 자료는 주로 노년의 여성이 구연하였으며, 보수적 전통이 오랜 경상북도에서 가장 많이 채록되었다. 노년 여성 결연 설화에서는 성적 존재로서의 노년 여성이 드러나는데, 그 양상에 따라 (1) 남성주의 성 담론에 포섭되는 노년 여성의 욕망, (2) 성적 욕망의 배제와 용인, (3) 노년 여성의 욕망을 둘러싼 소외와 혐오 극복, (4) 성적 대상화에 맞서는 노년 여성 주체 유형으로 분류할 수 있다. 남편이 생존한 노년 여성에게 성은 성기 중심이거나 정절 시험의 대상으로 나타나 철저히 남성중심으로 구성되고 있으며(1유형), 남편이 죽고 혼자 된 노년 여성의 경우에는 스스로 남성주의 윤리를 내면화하여 욕망을 배제하는 경우도 나타나지만 성적 욕망 비판의 목적으로 성욕이나 성기에 대해 마음껏 이야기하기를 허용하여, 현실적 윤리와 여성의 성적 욕망이 설화 내에서 적절히 타협점을 이룬다 하겠다.(2유형) 3유형에서는 노년 여성의 욕망에 대한 소외와 혐오가 드러나는데 남성구연자의 이야기에서 여성의 욕망은 성욕으로 국한되며 이는 남성의 조력자가 되는 방식으로 해소된다. 여성 구연자의 이야기에서 여성은 성욕보다는 진심어린 관계를 욕망하는 것으로 드러난다.(3유형) 노년 여성의 결혼 여부나 가족 관계가 드러나지 않는 4유형에서 노년 여성은 성적 대상화를 뛰어넘어 존재하며 성적 주체로서의 가능성을 보여준다. 노년 여성 결연 설화는 여성이 사랑과 성에 대해 터놓고 말할 수 있는 담론 공간이 전무한 상황에서 여성의 성적 욕망과 관련한 이야기를 다루는 특별한 이야기다. 또한 여성의 욕망에 대해 드러내 이야기하고 평가하는 이 설화의 이야기판은 여성들이 내밀한 경험을 나누고 욕망을 드러낼 수 있는 중요한 아고라 역할을 한 것으로 보인다. 남성주의 성 담론에 의해 은폐되거나 배제되고 소외되어온 노년 여성의 욕망은 이야기판에서 다르게 해석되는 지점이 분명 나타나며, 노년 여성이 욕망의 주체로 등장하는 이야기 역시 존재한다는 사실은 여성적 관점으로 노년을, 여성을, 그들의 욕망을 새롭게 이해해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the aspects and significance of desire expression in the folk-tales that reveal the desire of elderly women’s relationship(or marriages). Folk-tale materials concerning elderly women s relationships were mostly told by elderly women and were most frequently recorded in the traditionally conservative North Kyongsang Province. The story of elderly women s relationships reveals old women as sexual beings and, depending on the pattern of desire, the story can be classified into four types. (1) The desire of an elderly woman to be subscribed into masculinist sexual discourse; (2) The exclusion and acceptance of sexual desire; (3) Overcoming the exclusion and misogyny surrounding the desire of elderly women; (4) Elderly women subjected to sexual materialization. For older women whose husbands survive, sex is either genital or chastity is tested, and sex is thoroughly male-dominated (Type 1). In the case of widowed older women, some may exclude desire by internalizing the ethics of masculinity, but the practical ethics and the sexual desires of women are duly compromised in that narrative by allowing people to freely talk about sexual desires or genitalia for the purpose of criticizing sexual desire (Type 2). The third type reveal exclusion and misogyny to the desire of older women, which is limited to sex drive by the stories of male storytellers and is solved by supporting men. The story of the female storyteller reveals that women prefer genuine relationships to sexual desires (Type 3). Type 4 does not reveal elderly women’s marital status or family relations, the elderly women go beyond sexual objectification and show their potential as sexual subjects. The story of elderly women s relationships is a special one that tells the story of the women s sexual desires when they have no room to speak out about love and sex. This story plates〔Yiyagi-Pan〕 to share their inner experiences and express their wishes, and also serves as an important agora for women. The desire of older women, which has been masked, excluded, or marginalized, by male_sexual discourse is clearly interpreted differently in this story plates〔Yiyagi-Pan〕. The fact that there are certain stories of women appearing as agents of their desire is the testament to the need for a new understanding of old age, of women, and of their desires from a feminine point of view.
