여성 출가자의 상담 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 한국의 여성 출가자가 상담받은 경험으로 인해 수행생활에 어떤 변화가 있는지, 불교 수행에 대한 자세나 수행 방향에 변화가 있는지 그리고 불교 수행과 상담의 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 이 연구를 위해 한국의 여성 출가자로서 전문 상담자에게 개인 상담을 12회기 이상 받은 8명의 비구니를 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시했다. 인터뷰 자료는 현상학적 연구방법(Colaizzi, 1978)으로 분석했다. 분석 결과 모두 14개의 주제묶음을 추출할 수 있었다. 이 주제묶음을 출가자의 관점에서 수행 생활의 변화, 상담에 대한 이해, 불교 수행과 상담의 관계 등 3가지로 범주화했다. 연구 결과, 참여자들은 억압해 두었던 감정이나 문제 를 다룸으로서 빠른 자각과 통찰이, 자신에게 직면함으로써 자기 성장이 가능했고, 출가자도 적정 시기에 상담이 필요하며, 불교 수행과 상담은 유사점과 차이점이 있는 것으로 보고되었다. 마지막으로 불교 수행과 심리치료의 상보적인 협력의 중요성을 논의 하였다.

영문 초록

In recent years a great interest arose to the relationship between Buddhism and counseling and their integration. This study try to examines how female Buddhist monastics’ experiences of counseling affects their Buddhist practice, attitude or orientation toward the practice, and searches for the relationship between Buddhism and counseling. For this study, researcher has interviewed 8 female Buddhist monastics who had counseling experiences with professional counselor of more than 12 sessions. Interview data was qualitatively analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological methods. In result of the analysis, 14 themes were extracted from the data. These themes include change of female Buddhist monastics’ practice life, understanding of counseling, relationship between Buddhist practice and counseling. The 8 Interview have reported that they could experience self-growth through these three things: 1. dealing with the oppressed emotions and issues, 2. and resultant self-awareness and insights, 3. self-confrontation. They also have reported that even monastics should get some counseling if needed, and Buddhist practice and counseling have similarity and difference. Finally they have suggested that Buddhist practices and psychotherapy complement each other.
