국문 초록

본 논문에서는 경제의 발전정도에 의하여 영향을 받은 부패의 결정요인을 실증적으로 파악하고자 한다. 경제의 발전정도는 경로로 명명된 몇몇의 거시경제 변수(경로변수로 명명)에 통계적으로 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 경로변수로는 (ⅰ) 정부의 크기, (ⅱ) 정치적 발전, (ⅲ) 인적자본의 축적, (ⅳ) 무역 개방도, (ⅴ) 소득분포를 고려하였다. 또한, 이러한 높은 수준의 경로변수를 나타낸 국가는 낮은 부패수준을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 부패에 영향을 미치는 다른 설명변수를 포함시킨 추정방정식이나 개발도상국만으로 구성된 표본에서도 만족하였다. 그러므로 실증분석 결과는 정책적 함축성을 나타낸다. 즉, 경로변수들의 수준을 상승시키기 위한 정부 정책은 간접적으로 부패를 감소시키는 역할을 할 수 있다는 것이다. 그러나 정부의 키기와 소득분포의 경로변수가 부패에 미치는 영향은 모형이나 표본의 설정에 의존하여 추정결과가 다소 상이하게 나타났다. 핵심주제어: 부패, 경제발전, 정부의 크기, 정치적 발전, 인적자본의 축적, 무역 개방도, 소득분포

영문 초록

This paper empirically traces out the determinants of corruption, which can be determined by the economic development. It is found that a country's economic development is positively and significantly associated with higher levels of channels, such as (i)gov ernment size, (ii) political development, (iii) human capital accumulation, (iv) trade openness and(v)income distribution . Moreover, a country with higher levels of the channels ends up with a lower degree of corruption. These results hold even when controlling for other factors that affects corruption and a sub-sample of less developed countries. Therefore, the main implication of this paper is that government policies to improve the levels of the channels may indirectly reduce corruption. However, the impacts of a fewchannels, such as government size and income distribution, on corruption depend on the model and sample specifications.
