동태패널중력모형을 이용한 한·중·일 수입흐름 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 중력모형에 관한 최근의 경향들을 최대한 반영하여, 이론적인 측면에서는 요소부존도가 무역에 미치는 영향을 반영하는 모형에 대해 살펴보고 실증적인 측면에서는 기존의 실증분석에서 비교적 소홀히 다루어졌던 수입국 특유효과, 수출국 특유효과 그리고 시간 특유효과들의 상호작용에 의해 발생하는 효과까지 특유효과로 모형에 추가하여 한·중·일 3국의 수입무역의 특징을 분석하였다. 나아가 본 연구는 수입의 자귀회귀적(autoregressive) 특징을 모형에 도입하는 동태패널추정법(dynamic panel analysis)을 적용함으로써 정태적 분석(static panel analysis)에 의해 초래될 수 있는 편의추정의 가능성을 최소화하였다. 동태패널중력모형에서 한·중·일 세 나라의 수입흐름은 자신들의 과거 수입흐름으로부터 유의적인 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났으며, 정태적 분석만으로는 편의추정치를 초래할 가능성이 높다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 동태패널중력모형의 추정결과, 한국, 일본, 그리고 중국의 수입흐름이 상대적 국가규모의 유사성과 정의 관계를 보이고 있어 독점경쟁무역모형과 린더의 이론적 예측을 지지하는 것으로 추정되지만, 인당소득격차 요인에 대한 수입흐름의 반응이 헥셔-오린모형을 지지하는지 또는 신무역이론을 지지하는지의 여부에 대해서는 유의적인 결론을 얻을 수 없었다. 핵심 주제어 : 이국간 수입패턴, 동태패널중력모형, 동북아시아, 신무역이론, 린더의 가설 주제분류 : F10, C33

영문 초록

This paper introduced individual country-specific effects (import country specific effect, export country specific effect), time specific effect and an interaction effect(country-pair specific effect) to analyze bilateral import flows of Korea, China, and Japan. This is analyzed with an unbalanced panel of bilateral import between North-East three countries(Korea, China, and Japan) and their about 160 trading partners over the period 1950-I998. Diagnostic statistics suggested that all the individual specific effects and country-pair specific effect are significant and the omission of any of these effects leads to biased estimates and misleading inference. Moreover, in the model estimated in this paper the lagged dependent variable was also included as an independent variable. It is to control the autoregressive property of the import flows. As expected, lagged import flows exert a positive and highly significant on current export flows. Estimated dynamic panel gravity model identified a significant positive impact of the relative country size and overall country size variables on bilateral import of North -East three economies. It is in favor of the New Trade Theory and Linder's hypothesis. But it was not identified that the response of import flows to the relative capital endowment differences supports New Trade Theory or Heckscher-Ohlin Theory at significant level.
