국문 초록

예이츠의 바보의 독특성은 『환상록』에서 드러나지만, 시를 통해 더욱 빛을 발한다. 예이츠의 대표작인 『환상록』에서 바보는 달의 상 중 제28상에 해당하며 이는 거대한 바퀴의 순환의 마지막에 해당하는 중요한 위치이다. 제목에 “바보”가 등장하는 대표적인 시 「바보의 노래 두 곡」과 「바보의 또 다른 노래」에 대한 읽기를 통해 바보의 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 예이츠의 바보는 목표나 규칙에 얽매이는 세속적 삶으로부터의 자유를 갈망하며, 신적인 지혜를 소유한 자이다. 바보가 지닌 특징은 시에 등장하는 ‘산토끼’, ‘나비’, ‘장미’ 등의 상징들을 통해 더욱 명확해진다. 이는 바보의 내적 갈등이 어떻게 통합으로 이르는지를 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper discusses Yeats’s fools in “Two songs of a Fool” and “Another Song of a Fool” from The Wild Swans at Coole together with his philosophical work A Vision. In A Vision he locates the Fool in a prominent position, the phase 28, the last phase of the moon. Yeats considers the Fool the embodiment of a special kind of wisdom that is far different from common wisdom. This paper examines the various aspects of Yeatsian Fool by focusing on such the important symbols as “the hare”, “the butterfly” and “the rose.” This shows us Unity of Yeatsian Fool by suggesting counterpoint between free from physical world and all wisdom Fool possesses.
