예이츠와 워즈워드, 그리고 그들의 낭만시학

국문 초록

예이츠는 낭만주의자, 신비주의자, 상징주의 시인 등으로 불린다. 이 논문은 영국 낭만주의를 태동시킨 워즈워드의 시 이론으로 예이츠의 시를 읽는다. 예이츠는 워즈워드의 “즉흥적인 강한 느낌의 넘침”이라는 개념과 비슷한 시의 이론으로 아름답고 리듬감을 살려 자신의 시를 창작하고 있으며, 또한 자신의 시의 이론도 정립한 시인이다. 본 논문은 예이츠의 낭만주의 시학에 초점을 맞추어 예이츠 시에 대입한다.

영문 초록

When writing a poem, says Wordsworth, a poet should put down “the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.” He also asserts that the poetic diction should be the language ordinary people use. Basically, Yeats is not very different from Wordsworth in the way using poetic words. But more importantly, Yeats seems to have sublimated Wordsworth’s theory. He observes objects in nature, and makes them represent his feelings. Yeats experiments with prosody much more than Wordsworth.
