국문 초록

예이츠와 황현의 시에는 역사의식이 두드러지게 제시되어 있다. 이 연구에서는 두 시인의 역사이미지를 비교한다. 예이츠와 황현은 나라는 다르지만 동시대를살았던 인물이다. 예이츠는 아일랜드의 독립과 열망을 ‘존재의 통합’으로 노래한데 비해서, 황현은 대한제국의 독립과 열망을 충의 ‘절개’로 노래한다. 두 시인에게 있어서역사의식은 그냥 조국에 대한 단순한 역사의식에 머물지 않고 온 인류애로 확장되어평화를 노래한다. 이들은 모두 조국에 대한 역사의 ‘불멸성’을 노래한다. 이들은 민중이고통 없이 살아가는 평화로운 나라를 꿈꾸었고, 그 나라가 실현되길 희망한다. 두 시인은 귀족주의와 선비정신으로 이 땅에 평화로운 세상이 오기를 학수고대한 시인들이다.

영문 초록

The poems of W. B. Yeats and Hwang Hyun demonstrate remarkable historical consciousness. This study compares the historical images in the poetry of the two poets. Though they lived in different places, both Yeats and Hwang Hyun were contemporaries. Yeats sings the Unity of Being, while Hwang Hyun the ‘integrity’ of loyalty. The two poets’ historical consciousness points to the brotherhood of men all over the world, singing peace. Both, singing the immortality of history, dream of a peaceful country where people live without pain. They look forward to a peaceful world: Yeats wishing to establish aristocratism in Ireland and Hwang Hyun the spirit of Seon-bi in Korea.
