국문 초록

이 연구는 학생들이 그들의 일상생활에 재현된 다양한 경관을 탐색하는데 포토보이스가 가지는 함의를 논의한다. 포토보이스를 활용한 경관학습에서 학생들은 자신이 살고 있는 공동체 및 장소에 재현된 경관 사진을 찍고 가장 적절한 것을 선정하며, 자신의 목소리(내러티브)를 통해 해당 사진에 대한 해석을 해야 한다. 우리는 교수 도구로써 포토보이스가 학생들에게 장소 또는 경관에 대한 표상 및 해석 능력인 메타표상 역량, 즉 비주얼 리터리시 역량을 향상시킬 수 있으며, 나아가 사진을 통해 경관의 재현적 요소를 목소리(내러티브)를 통해 비재 현적 지리를 창안할 수 있다고 주장한다. 즉 포토보이스는 청소년들의 일상적 경험들을 시각화할 수 있게 하고, 개인적 의미와 감성 그리고 정동을 끌어내며, 실제적이고 능동적 학습(real-life and active learning)을 촉진하고, 비 판적 의식화(critical consciousness)를 불러일으키며, 그들의 비주얼 “읽기(reading)”, “쓰기(writing)”, 그리고 “사고 (thinking)” 기능들의 관점에서 청소년의 비주얼 리터러시와 메타표상 역량을 강화한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the implications of photovoice for students’ exploration of the varied landscapes depicted in their daily experiences. In landscape learning utilizing photoboards, students are tasked with capturing photographs of landscapes within their communities, selecting the most suitable images, and interpreting them through their own narrative voice. We assert that employing photovoice as an educational instrument improves students’ meta-representational competence, or visual literacy, which includes the capacity to depict and interpret a location or landscape. Furthermore, it cultivates the development of a non-representational geography via photography, enabling students to articulate their interpretations of the landscape’s representational elements through their own narratives. Photovoice allows youth to depict their daily experiences, generates personal significance, emotions, and affect; fosters experiential and active learning; stimulates critical awareness; and enhances their visual literacy and meta-representational abilities regarding visual “reading,” “writing,” and “thinking” skills.
