제주해녀문화 관광에서의 진정성 인식과 형성 - 제주 ‘해녀의 부엌’을 사례로

국문 초록

필자들은 기존 연구에서 제주해녀문화의 지속가능성을 유지 및 제고하기 위해서는 진정성에 기반한 관광 자원화가 필수적이며, 제주 ‘해녀의 부엌’ 경험연구를 통해 이러한 시도들이 일부 나타나고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 그 후속 연구로서, 제주해녀문화의 이색적인 관광자원화 사례로 주목받고 있는 해녀의 부엌을 사례로 제주 해녀문화 관광자원화가 어떻게 진정성을 형성하고 있는지를 고찰하였다. 진정성을 구성유형에 따라 객관적, 구성 적 그리고 실존적 진정성으로 구분하고 각각의 유형에 따라 진정성이 어떻게 인식되고 형성되었는지를 분석하였 다. 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 객관적 진정성의 인식에 대하여, 관광생산자 측면에서는 제주해녀의 고달픈 삶의 애환을 이해하고 공감하는 것에 집중하였고, 관광객 측면에서는 해녀의 부엌에서의 체험을 통해 제주해녀의 고달픈 삶의 애환을 충분히 인식할 수 있었다. 구성적 진정성의 형성에 대하여 관광생산자 측면에서는 관광객보다 제주해녀에 집중하여, 제주해녀들이 자신들의 업에 자긍심을 가지고 그에 합당한 사회적 처우와 경제적 수익 창출 이 동반되어야 함을 강조하였다. 실존적 진정성의 인식에 대하여 관광객 측면에서 해녀의 부엌을 통해 기존의 관 광 활동과는 다른 방식으로 제주해녀문화를 실감나게 체험할 수 있었음을 높이 평가했다. 제주해녀문화의 또 다른 체험 방식에 대해서도 관광객의 관심도는 크게 증가하였으나 반면 해녀의 부엌 방문의 지속성은 상대적으로 낮은 공감을 나타내었다.

영문 초록

In previous studies, we confirmed that some of these attempts are appearing through a case study on the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’ in Jeju and tourism resources based on authenticity are essential to maintain and enhance the sustainability of Jeju Haenyeo Culture. As a follow-up study, this study examined how the tourism resources of the Jeju Haenyeo Culture form authenticity by targeting the ‘Henyeo’s Kitchen’, which is attracting attention as an unusual case of tourism resources in Jeju Haenyeo Culture. This study classified authenticity into objective, constructive, and existential authenticity according to the type of composition, and analyzed how authenticity for each type was perceived and formed. As a result, regarding the perception of objective authenticity, the tourism producer focused on understanding and empathizing with the joys and sorrows of Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers)’s life. Through the experience of the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’, the tourists were able to fully recognize the joys and sorrows of the Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers)’s life. Regarding the formation of constructive authenticity, the tourism producer focused on Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers) rather than tourists, emphasizing that Jeju Haenyeo (Women Divers) should take pride in their jobs and be accompanied by improvement in social treatment and economic profit creation. Regarding the perception of existential authenticity, tourists appreciated that they were able to experience Jeju Haenyeo Culture realistically in a way different from the existing tourism activities in the ‘Haenyeo’s Kitchen’. Therefore, tourists’ interest in another way of experiencing Jeju Haenyeo Culture has increased significantly, but tourists’ sympathy for the continuity of visiting the ‘Henyeo’s Kitchen’ was relatively low.
