저시력 자녀를 양육하는 어머니의 일반학교와 특수학교 교육 경험에 관한 질적연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 저시력 자녀를 양육하는 어머니의 일반학교 통합교육 경험과 특수학교 교육 경험에 대해 질적연구로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 저시력 자녀를 양육하는 어머니 세 명과 심층면담을 5회기에 걸쳐 실시하였다. 일반학교에서의 통합교육 경험을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들은 저시력 자녀를 양육하면서 저시력 자녀의 교육적 정보가 부족하여 어떻게 교육할지 막막함을 경험하였다. 둘째, 또래 친구들이나 담임 교사의 저시력 인식 부족으로 인해 저시력 자녀들은 학교 적응에 어려움을 경험하였다. 셋째, 연구 참여자들은 저시력 자녀가 교사의 역량에 따라 학교 적응의 차이가 있음을 경험하였다. 특수학교에서의 교육 경험은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자의 저시력 자녀는 일반학교에서 경험하지 못한 다양한 활동과 수업에 참여할 수 있었다. 둘째, 장애 유형에 따른 차이로 인해 또래 관계나 학업적인 어려움을 경험하기도 하였다. 셋째, 비장애학생과 소통의 부재를 경험하였다. 이러한 질적연구의 결과는 양적으로 일반화할 수 없는 개인의 독특한 삶의 경험을 드러내는 것에 큰 의미가 있다. 이에 본 논문의 연구 결과가 저시력 학생들이 자신이 가진 능력을 백분 발휘할 수 있는 교육적 개선을 위한 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted as a qualitative research project to explore the experiences of mothers raising children with low vision in inclusive education settings at general schools and specialized education settings at special schools. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with three mothers of children with low vision over five sessions. The findings regarding inclusive education in general schools are as follows. First, the participants experienced a sense of helplessness regarding their children’s education due to the lack of educational resources and information specific to low vision. Second, the children faced difficulties in adapting to school environments due to the lack of awareness about low vision among their peers and homeroom teachers. Third, the participants observed differences in their children’s school adaptation depending on the teachers’ competencies. Regarding the experiences in special schools, the results are as follows. First, the children were able to engage in a variety of activities and classes that were not available in general schools. Second, they encountered challenges in peer relationships and academic performance due to differences in disability types. Third, the children experienced a lack of interaction with non-disabled peers. The findings of this qualitative study provide meaningful insights into the unique lived experiences of individuals, which cannot be generalized quantitatively. It is anticipated that the results of this research will serve as a foundation for improving educational practices to enable students with low vision to fully realize their potential.
