국문 초록

본 연구는 19세기 양반가 여성의 한글 필사본인 『윤시긔록』의 서체를 서예학적 측면에서 규명한 것이다.『윤시긔록』은 해평윤씨(海平尹氏, 1834-1882)가 2년(1856-1857)에 걸쳐 평생을 회고하며 시간순으로 기록한 회고록이다. 현재 조선 여성의 편지글은 상당수가 발견되어 알려졌지만, 여성의 생애를 담은 자기 서사 기록은 극히 드물다. 특히 19세기 조선은 남성 중심 사회로 여성의 목소리를 담은 기록은 거의 찾아볼 수 없으며, 기록이 있더라도 왕실과 사대부가에서 몇 점의 필사본만 현전할 뿐이다. 이런 점에서 『윤시긔록』은 19세기 여성의 한글서예 사료로서 가치가 남다르다. 서예사적 측면에서도 당대 정형화된 여성 서체인 궁체(宮體)와 달리 자유롭고 개성 있는 필의의 한글서예라는 점에서 주목된다. 이에 본고는 『윤시긔록』의 서체적 특징을 용필, 결구, 장법에 근거하여 분석했다. 첫째, 용필(用筆)에 있어서는 방필과 원필, 노봉과 장봉, 중봉과 측봉 등의 다양한 기법을 활용했다. 따라서 필획의 다양성이 돋보이며 곡직의 조화를 이루고 있다. 필속과 강약의 변화를 통해 운율감이 있으며, 유연함과 질박함이 어우러진다. 둘째, 결구(結構)에 있어서는 참치, 소밀, 대소, 장단, 대립이 나타나며 투박하면서도 소박함이 드러난다. 자모음의 짜임에서 일률적인 법식을 적용하지 않고 붓이 가는 대로 자형이 구성되었으며, 서사 흐름에 따라 변화가 많다. 서체는 대체로 흘림을 취했는데 간혹 정자와 진흘림의 자형을 혼용한 것이 특징적이며, 자모음과 글자 간의 조화로운 호응을 통해 조형성이 두드러진다. 셋째, 장법(章法)에 있어서는 정해진 형식에 얽매이지 않고 서사 흐름에 따라 유연하게 연결되며 흑과 백의 안배가 이상적이다. 또한 글자의 중심축이 자유롭게 이동하는 변화를 꾀하여 동적이고 생동감 있는 필세를 드러낸다. 『윤시긔록』은 당대 개성 있는 여성의 한글서예로서 새로운 일면을 보여준다. 특히 정형화된 궁체에서 벗어나 다양한 서체를 혼용하여 한글 서체의 확장 가능성을 엿볼 수 있어 특기할 만하다. 따라서 본고는 『윤시긔록』을 서예학적 측면에서 처음 시도한 연구로서 새로운 한글 서체를 발견하고, 19세기 여성 한글서예의 위상을 제고했으며, 향후 한글 서체 개발과 창작의 자료를 제공하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the typeface of “Yoon’s personal record” a Hangeul manuscript of a noble woman(兩班家) in the 19th century, in terms of calligraphy. “Yoon’s personal record” is a manuscript by Haepyeong Yun’s(1834-1882) which recounts hers life and narrates his situation and feelings in chronological order. Currently, many of the letters of Joseon women have been found and known, but records of their own narratives about women's lives are extremely rare. In particular, Joseon in the 19th century is a male-centered society, and few articles containing women's voices are found, and even if there is a record, only a few manuscripts are published in the royal family and the noble family. In this regard, “Yoon’s personal record” is of special value as a historical record of Hangeul calligraphy of women in the 19th century. In terms of calligraphy history, it is noteworthy that it is a free and unique calligraphy of penmanship, unlike Gungche(宮體), a formal female font of the time. Therefore, this paper analyzed the font characteristics of “Yoon’s personal record” based on the use of a brush method(用筆) and the structure(結構)and the composition of a work(章法). First, in the use of a brush method(用筆), various techniques such as Bangpil(方筆) and Wonpil(圓筆), Nobong(露鋒) and Jangbong(藏鋒), Jungbong(中鋒) and Cheukbong(側鋒) were used. Therefore, the diversity of strokes stands out and the harmony of the straight line and curve is harmonized. There is a sense of rhyme through changes in writing speed and strength, and flexibility and simplicity are combined. Second, in the structure(結構), a jagged form, long and short, sparse and dense, large and small, long and short, and confrontation appear, revealing a rough and simple feeling. In the composition of consonants and vowels, the shape of the brush is naturally formed as it is without applying uniform rules and formalities, and there are many changes according to the narrative flow. The typeface is generally characterized by a mixture of the shapes of Jungja and Jinheulim, and the formability stands out through the harmonious in reponse between the consonants and letters. Third, in the composition of a work(章法), it is not bound to a set form, is naturally connected according to the narrative flow, and the arrangement of black and white is ideal. In addition, the change in the free movement of the central axis of the letter reveals a dynamic and lively penmanship. “Yoon’s personal record” shows a new aspect as a Korean calligraphy of a unique woman of the time. In particular, it is noteworthy that it is possible to see the possibility of expanding the Hangeul calligraphy typeface by mixing various types of fonts away from the formalized Gungche. Therefore, this paper is meaningful in that it was the first study to attempt “Yoon’s personal record” in terms of calligraphy, discovered a new Hangeul calligraphy typeface, enhanced the status of female Hangeul calligraphy in the 19th century, and intends to provide materials for the development and creation of Hangul calligraghy in the future.
