체험담 내러티브에서의 문말표현 ‘-것이다’에 대하여

국문 초록

일상적 담화 속에 나타나는 체험담을 비롯한 내러티브(narrative)가 최근에 주목을 받고 있다. 내러티브란 문어나 구어 등 다양한 장르의 언어를 폭넓게 아우르는 범주로 파악해야 한다. 본고는 한국어의 일상적 체험담 내러티브에서 관찰되는 언어전략에 대하여 알아보기 위하여 개인적 인터뷰와 라디오 상담, TV 토크쇼 등의 내러티브를 분석하였는데, 거기에서 두드러진 것은 과거의 사건을 현재에 이야기하는 것이므로 과거와 현재의 두 시공간에 대한 설명을 청자에게 해야 하고, 과거 상황을 정리하여 청자에게 제시하려는 전략이었다. 그래서 인용의 ‘-더라’ 등이 자주 쓰였다. 그런데 본고가 주목한 것은 ‘-것이다’이다. 이는 단순히 과거시제를 쓰는 것과는 다르게, 과거의 회상을 화자의 입장에서 보다 생생한 해석틀로 다루어 전하려는 전략으로 쓰이고 있었다. 이때 ‘-것이다’는 ‘것’과 ‘이다’가 결합하여 이들 각각의 의미와는 무관하게 강조나 단정 등을 나타내는데, 특히 체험담 내러티브에서는 화자의 체험에 대한 감상이나 태도를 나타내는 ‘평가적 기능’(evaluative function)을 담당하고 있고, 실천적 사회행위로서의 담화(discourse)에서 상호작용상의 텍스트(interactional text)인 것이다. 이는 ‘지시적 기능’(referential function)을 하는 체험의 명제적 텍스트(denotational text)과 대조적인 것이며, 사회행위자로서의 동적 의미생성 과정을 설명해준다. 또한 의미의 공동구축, 문맥화(contextualization)를 통하여 지표성(indexicality)이 드러나게 해주는 역할도 하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 언어와 문화를 보다 입체적으로 파악하게 해주며, 하고자 하는 몇 가지의 접근방법을 낳았는데, 담화분석, 의미의 공동구축, 문맥화(contextualization), 기호론적 관점과 등이 그것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the players can be general citizens(or actors or performers) appearance on the stage or on TV talk show or radio talking story or individual interview, etc. In the narrative discourse, a strategy to present their personal experience is conspicuously used as a strategy to bring any events that have been happened in the past state of time and space into present state of the time and space. Thereby expression of ‘-더라’ was commonly used in his/her personal experience in our daily life discourse. However, this paper is to focus on the ‘-것이다’ as a strategy of reporting. That is, unlike a simple use of past tense, it has been used as a strategy to construe the ‘-것이다’ as vivid explication frame in the perspective of story teller for the past recollection. In this specific point, ‘-것이다’ is a combination of ‘것’ and ‘이다’, which indicates emphasis or assertion, irrespective of each quotative meaning. Especially in the narrative shows a referential function that presents the content of his/her personal experience and an evaluative function that presents thoughts or attitude. This is a contrast to denotational text of the story that indicates the referential function, and thereby it explains a process of dynamic meaning generation as a social performer. Moreover, it presents as a role to emphasize the indexicality through mutual construction of the meaning or contextualization. It is found out that there are several approaches to grasp or to try the language and culture in multi-dimensional manner. This results in the line of the context of discourse analysis, mutual construction of the meaning or contextualization or semiotic view, etc.
