본 연구는 카를 융의 ‘개성화’와 다석 유영모의 ‘바탈타기’ 개념을 기반으로 요한복음 3장 3절에 등장하는 ‘다시 나지 않으면’이라는 구절을 새롭게 해석한다. 이 연구는 융과 유영모의 사상적 접점을 탐구하며, 특히 무의식의 의식화와 온전성을 실현하는 과정인 ‘개성화’와 ‘바탈타기’를중심으로 성서 본문을 분석한다. 니고데모가 밤에 예수를 찾아가는 장면을 통해 그를 영적·심리적 차원의 갈증을 지닌 상징적 인물로 이해하며, ‘다시 나지 않으면’의 ‘ἄνωθεν’의 이중적인 의미를 분절하는 대신 ‘다시 위로(부터)’라는 통합적 의미로 확장하여, 이 구절이 인간의 영적 재탄생과 신성(神性)의 회복을 의미하고 있음을 논의한다. 또한, 융의 ‘사위체’ 와그로부터 파생한 원형사위체(The Quaternities as a Circle)에 담긴 개성화와 유영모의 바탈타기 수행을 통합적으로 분석하여 서구와 동양 사상의 융합을 통한 성서 해석의 새로운 가능성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 이러한 해석을 바탕으로 현대를 살아가는 ‘니고데모’들을 위한 한국 교회와 목회적 실천에 변화 요청과 제언을 함으로써 마무리하려 한다.

영문 초록

This study seeks to reinterpret the phrase “unless he is born again” from John 3:3 by drawing upon Carl Jung’s theory of ‘individuation’ and Dasuk Ryu Youngmo’s concept of ‘Bataltagi.’ The research explores the intersection of Jung’s and Yoo’s philosophical ideas, particularly focusing on the processes of individuation and Bataltagi, which center on the realization of wholeness and the integration of the unconscious. Through a symbolic interpretation of Nicodemus’s nighttime visit to Jesus, the study examines his spiritual thirst and inner transformation, expanding the meaning of “born again” to encompass the notion of “born from above.” This discussion explores how this phrase signifies the spiritual rebirth of humanity and the restoration of divine nature. Furthermore, by integrating Jung’s concept of the ‘Quaternity’ with Yoo’s practice of Bataltagi, the study demonstrates a novel approach to biblical exegesis that merges Western and Eastern thought. The findings offer significant insights for contemporary Korean church practices and pastoral care, shedding new light on the profound spiritual meanings inherent in the biblical text.
