국문 초록

이 글은 돌봄의 중요성과 필요성을 논의하기 위해 옛이야기 <구렁덩덩신선비>의 역할을 강조한다. 20세기 후반부터 화두로 떠올랐던 돌봄이라는 주제는 아직도 전 세계적인 관심을 받고 있으며, 시간이 흐를수록 그 범위와 필요가 확대되고 있다. 돌봄은 어떤 존재에 대해 관심을 가지고 보살피는 것을 의미한다. 이는 단순히 신체적·물리적인 측면에서뿐만 아니라 정서적·사회적으로 관심과 보살핌을 제공하여 개인이 현재의 삶보다 더 나은 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 하고 그것을 통해 우리가 살아가는 세상을 보다 낫게 할 수 있는 활동 모두를 포함한다. 이러한 돌봄은 ‘관계’ 속에서 이루어지며, 관계 맺음은 자기돌봄과 타인을 향한 돌봄에서 모두 필요하다. <구렁덩덩신선비>에서 주목할 만한 부분은 셋째 딸이 서사 속에서 맺고 있는 타인들과의 관계이다. 신선비, 신선비 어머니, 그리고 신선비를 찾으러 떠나는 여정 속에서 만나는 타인들과의 관계 속에서 타인을 향한 돌봄의 중요성과 그 기저에 깔려 있는 자기돌봄의 필요성을 확인한다. <구렁덩덩신선비>를 통해 우리는 돌봄이 관계 속에서 이루어지며, 자기돌봄이 타인을 돌보고 자신이 더 나은 삶을 살아가는 데 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있는 것이다. 사회 곳곳에서 돌봄의 공백이 드러나고 사회적 유대감과 관계 속에서의 정서적 지지가 허물어지는 지금, <구렁덩덩신선비>는 자신을 돌보고 동시에 타인과 관계를 맺고 타인을 돌보는 셋째 딸의 모습을 통해 관계와 (자기)돌봄의 중요성과 필요성을 상기시킨다. 그렇기 때문에 이 이야기는 오랜 과거의 이야기로 존재하는 것이 아니라 현대의 핵개인화 시대에 다시 한번 중요하게 살펴볼 만한 이야기이다.

영문 초록

This article emphasizes the role of the old story “Gurongdongdong Sinsonbi” to discuss the importance and necessity of caring. 'Caring' has emerged as a hot topic since the late 20th century. And it is still receiving worldwide attention. Caring is expanding in scope and need as time goes by. The meaning of 'care' is to care about a being and take care of it. This includes providing interest and care not only in the physical aspect, but also emotionally and socially. It allows individuals to lead better lives than their current lives. And it includes all the activities that can make the world in which we live better. Caring takes place in a 'relationship'. Establishing a relationship is necessary for both self-care and caring for others. This discussion focuses on the relationships the third daughter has with others. Through it, we confirm the importance of caring for others and the need for self-care underlying it. Through “Gurongdongdong Sinsonbi”, we can see that caring takes place in a relationship. It can also be seen that self-care plays an important role in taking care of others and living a better life. Currently, gaps in care are revealed in many parts of society, and social bonds and emotional support in relationships are being torn down. “Gurongdongdong Sinsonbi” contains the image of the third daughter who takes care of herself, has a relationship with others, and at the same time cares for others. This appearance reminds us of the importance and necessity of relationships and (self)care. Therefore, this story does not exist as a story of the long past. This story must be treated as important once again in the modern era of nuclear personalization.
