한반도 서북부 초기철기문화 출현 과정의 一面

국문 초록

요동-청천강 이북의 초기철기문화는 연의 영역 확장과 관련되어 여겨지거나, 연의 영역 확장 속에서 위만조선이 발전시킨 것으로 여겨진다. 즉, 이 지역 초기철기문화 전개의 주체를 연으로 볼 것인가 위만조선으로 볼 것인가의 두 견해가 대립하고 있는 것이다. 한편 한국학계에서는 초기철기문화 전개의 주체로서 위만조선의 역할을 강조하지만, 정작 연에서 망명했다고 하는 위만이 망명하기 전에 어떤 세력이었는지에 대해서는 이렇다 할 설명을 하지 않고 있다. 이는 어떤 구체적인 설명을 할 수 있는 문헌적, 고고학적 자료가 부족하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 한반도 서북부 지역의 위연 용연동 유적에 주목하여 이 지역의 초기철기문화가 등장하는 배경의 한 단면을 살펴보고자 하였다. 특히 위만의 고조선 망명 전후, 즉 전국 말~진한교체기 즈음 요령~청천강 이북지역에서 발생한 문화변동에 주목하였다. 이 시기 해당 지역에는 일부 유물이 새롭게 출현하기도 하고, 기존의 연계 유물도 지역적 변이가 발생한다. 이러한 현상은 요서지역을 중심으로 발생하는데, 연이 이 지역을 점령하였더라도 우리가 생각하는 것만큼 연나라 중심부의 철저한 통제가 이루어지기는 힘들었던 것으로 판단된다. 그렇기 때문에 연이 기원전 3세기경 이 지역을 점령한 후, 지역세력이 발흥하는 과정에서 전형적인 연의 유물과는 다른 방향으로 물질문화의 변형이 일어나거나, 자체적으로 새로운 형태의 유물을 창조하기도 하였던 것으로 보인다. 동시에 전국 말~진한교체기의 사회적 혼란기 속에서 주변 지역 유이민의 유입으로 기타 지역의 유물도 출현하는 것으로 보인다. 이러한 일련의 문화변동은 역사적 사건과 구체적으로 대응시키기는 힘들지만, 새롭게 발흥한 지역세력 중 고조선으로 망명하기 전 위만과 관련된 집단이 있었을 것으로 추정된다.

영문 초록

The early iron culture from Liaodong to the north of the Chongchon River is considered to be related to Yan's expansion, or it is understood that Wiman-Chosŏn developed in Yan's expansion. If it is regarded as solely due to Yan's influence, it is understood that the main agent of the iron culture is Yan, if it is understood that it was developed by Wiman-Chosŏn, although there was a Yan’s influence, it is acknowledged that Wiman-Chosŏn is the main agent that has developed the iron culture. However, although the Korean academic community emphasizes the role of Wiman-Chosŏn, it does not provide any explanation about what kind of group Wiman was who defected from Yan. This is because there is a lack of literature and archaeological data to explain in detail. In this paper, I attempted to examine the background of the early iron culture in this area by focusing on the site of Yongyeon-dong in the northwest of the Korean Peninsula. To achieve this, I focused on cultural changes in the region from northeastern China to the north of the Chongchon River, which occurred around the end of the Warring States Period and during the replacement period of the Qin and Han dynasties, both before and after Wiman's defection to Old Chosŏn. During this period, some relics newly appeared in the area, and existing Yan-style relics also underwent regional variations. This series of cultural changes is difficult to specifically correspond to historical events. However, it was estimated that there was a group related to Wiman before defecting to Old Chosŏn among the newly emerging local forces.
