국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 우리에게 익숙한 피노키오라는 캐릭터와 그 서사를 통해 오늘날 새롭게 요청되는 포스트휴먼적 주체의 모습을 상정해보는 것에 있다. 카를로 콜로디 의 소설 『피노키오의 모험』에 등장하는 꼭두각시 나무 인형 피노키오는 말썽꾸러기이지만, 모험 끝에 제페토의 진정한 아들로 거듭난다. 나무 인형이 인간처럼 움직이고, 후에 인간과 유사한 존재가 된다는 상상력은 최근 괄목할 만한 성장을 보여주고 있는 AI를 연상시킨다. AI는 인간의 지성과 합리성을 위협한다는 점에서 인간중심주의를 해체하는데, 피노키오 서사는 인간과 움직이는 나무 인형의 경계가 흐릿해진다는 점에서 포스트휴먼 시대의 인간과 AI를 고찰하는 데에 중요한 참조점이 되어준다. 이 글은 소설 『피노키오의 모험』과 소설을 원작으로 한 일련의 영화들을 대상으로 하여 비인간 행위자인 피노키오와 다른 행위자들이 맺는 관계를 살핀다. 이때 브뤼노라투르의 행위자-네트워크 이론을 경유한다. 인간과 비인간을 동등한 행위자로 보고 그들이 맺는 네트워크에 초점을 맞추는 이 이론이 피노키오의 행위성과 인간-비인간의 관계를 선명하게 해주기 때문이다. 피노키오 서사들을 통시적으로 살펴보면 비인간 행위자에 대한 인식과 감수성이 점진적으로 변화함을 확인할 수 있다. 피노키오와 등장인물들은 우정, 연대, 사랑 등 점차 폭넓은 감정을 나누고, 나무라는 피노키오의 신체적 특징은 차이에서 가치를 지닌 비인간성으로 새로이 인지된다. 그러나 결국 피노키오가 인간이 되는 결말을 취함으로써 인간중심주의를 벗어나지 못하는 한계를 보여줬다. 기예르모 델 토로의 영화 <피노키오>(2022)는 피노키오가 인간인지 아닌지를 논하는 대신에 인간과 AI가 어떤 일이 일어날지 알 수 없는 세상 속에 함께 살고 있음을 이야기 한다. 그리고 비인간 행위자인 피노키오와 교감하면서 인간 행위자가 주체로서 각성하는 과정을 비중 있게 그려내어 비인간을 도구화하던 세대가 끝이 나고 피노키오와 함께 공진화하는 포스트휴머니즘 세대의 서막을 알린다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to speculate on the emerging image of the post-human subject through the familiar character of Pinocchio and its narrative. Pinocchio, the puppet made of wood in Carlo Collodi's novel , starts off as a troublemaker but eventually turn into the true son of Geppetto. The imaginative idea of a wooden puppet moving and later evolving into a humanoid bring up the image of AI. AI threat human intellect and rationality what challenges anthropocentrism, and the narrative of Pinocchio becomes a significant reference point for contemplating humans and AI in the post-human era, blurring the boundaries between human and non-human. This text examines the relationships formed between the non-human actor Pinocchio and other actors in a series of films based on the novel . Bruno Latour's Actor-Network Theory is used for this examination. This theory, which considers humans and non-humans as equal actors and focuses on the networks they form, provides clarity to Pinocchio's agency and the relationships between human and non-human. Through a comprehensive analysis of the Pinocchio narratives, it is evident that perceptions and sensibilities towards non-human actors gradually evolve. Pinocchio and other characters begin to share a wide range of emotions such as friendship, solidarity, and love, and the wooden nature of Pinocchio's body is newly perceived as a valued non-human trait at points of divergence. However, ultimately, the conclusion where Pinocchio becomes human demonstrates the limits of transcending anthropocentrism. Guillermo del Toro's film (2022), instead of debating whether Pinocchio is human or not, tells the story of humans and AI living together in a world where the outcome is uncertain. It portrays the awakening process of human actor, as he interacts with the non-human actor Pinocchio, signaling the beginning of a post-humanist era where the previous generation, which treated non-humans as tools, ends, and co-evolves with Pinocchio, heralding a significant shift towards post-humanism.
