국문 초록

19세기 말, 정치적 타협의 결과로 형성된 오스트리아-헝가리 이중제국은 농업 중심의 후진국이었던 헝가리에 현대적인 변화를 가져왔다. 이 시기에 헝가리는 산업적으로 농·공업 국가로 급격히 변모하였으며, 이는 사회 구조와 문화예술 분야에서도 광범위한 영향을 끼쳤다. 헝가리는 유럽 주요 도시들과 문화 교류를 활발히 추진하며 국제화와 유럽화의 기반을 다지는 동시에, 자국의 민족적 특성과 독창성을 강조하는 작업을 병행하였다. 당시 헝가리 문화예술계에서는 범유럽적인 다양한 문화예술의 흐름이 유입되고 확장되었다. 이러한 배경 가운데, 헝가리 분리파 양식은 자국의 전통적인 민속 소재를 기반으로 한 독특한 스타일을 창조하며 중요한 역할을 했다. 이 양식은 모더니즘과 아방가르드 경향에서 많은 영향을 받았으며, 정적인 사회적, 철학적, 과학적, 예술적 실증주의를 넘어서며 복잡한 경향을 보였다. 양식화와 장식성은 자연주의에 대한 반응이자 상징주의와 예술적 추상화의 연속성을 나타냈다. 건축 분야에서 헝가리 분리파 양식은 자연에서 영감을 받은 유기적이고 곡선적인 선들을 특징으로 한다. 이러한 선들은 건물의 외관뿐만 아니라 내부 장식에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 그리고 복잡한 장식에, 밝고 다채로운 색상을 사용하였는데, 이는 건축용 타일이나 유리 작업에서 두드러진다. 또한 건축물은 단순히 기능적인 공간을 넘어 문화적 정체성을 표현하는 매체로 활용되었다. 미술 분야에서도 헝가리의 정체성을 강조하고자 하는 예술가들의 노력이 반영되었는데, 헝가리 분리파 미술가들은 전통적인 민속 예술과 패턴을 현대적인 스타일과 결합하여 작품에 표현하였다. 이들의 작품 속에는 식물, 동물 그리고 자연의 다양한 소재들이 자주 나타났다. 그리고 문학적으로는 은유와 공감각이 양식화와 장식성의 주요 도구로 사용되었다. 이 시기에 선호된 장르들은 시극, 동화, 환상적인 단편, 심리소설, 서정시 등이었으며, 이들은 내면세계와 삶의 느낌을 직접적으로 표현하는 데 초점을 맞췄다. 분리파 양식은 단편 소설 분야에서 특히 영향력이 컸으며, 당시 문학 저널리즘에서도 중요한 역할을 했다. 이 운동은 경제적으로 부유한 자유주의 중산층의 문화적, 민족적 가치를 강조하며, 전통적인 기독교적 가치관과 중산층의 미적 취향을 인정하는 데 기여했다. 분리파 양식이 없이는 모리츠 지그몬드(Móricz Zsigmond)와 버비츠 미하이(Babits Mihály) 같은 작가들의 새로운 사실주의 창작이 불가능했을 것이다. 헝가리의 예술가들이 자국의 전통과 민속 예술을 현대적인 스타일과 결합하려는 시도에서 비롯된 헝가리 분리파 양식은 특히 민족적이고 민속적인 요소를 강조하는 경향을 보이며, 헝가리의 지역적 특성과 국가적 정체성을 표현하는 독특한 방식을 발전시켰음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

During the late 19th century, the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy brought modern transformations to Hungary, as a result of political compromise. Hungary, which was primarily an agrarian and underdeveloped nation, rapidly evolved into an industrial and agricultural state during this era. This transformation significantly influenced Hungary’s social structure, culture, and art fields. Additionaly, during the Dual Monarchy, Hungary actively pursued cultural exchanges with major European cities. This period laid the foundation for internationalization and Europeanization, while emphasizing national characteristics and originality. The influx and expansion of diverse pan-European cultural and artistic trends in Hungary were prominent during this time. The Hungarian Secession style played a pivotal role in creating a unique style grounded in the nation’s traditional folk motifs, which was influenced by modernism and avant-garde tendencies. The Hungarian Secession style in architecture aimed to go beyond static societal, philosophical, scientific, and artistic positivism by showcasing intricate trends. Stylization and ornamentation were utilized as a response to naturalism and as a continuation of symbolism and artistic abstraction. This style is characterized by organic and curvilinear lines inspired by nature, which are present in both the exteriors and interior decorations of buildings. The architecture style of Hungary in the early 20th century was characterized by complex decorations and bright, diverse colors, especially in tile and glasswork. Buildings were not only functional spaces but also used to express cultural identity. In the field of art, Hungarian artists emphasized national identity by combining traditional folk art and patterns with contemporary styles in their works, often featuring plants, animals, and other natural elements. During this period, literature utilized metaphor and synesthesia as tools for stylization and ornamentation. The preferred genres were dramas, fairy tales, fantastical short stories, psychological novels, and lyric poetry. The focus was on expressing inner worlds and life's sentiments directly. The Secession style had a significant influence on the genre of short stories and played a crucial role in literary journalism of the time. This movement emphasized the cultural and national values of the economically prosperous liberal middle class, recognizing traditional Christian national values and the aesthetic tastes of the middle class. The new realism of writers such as Móricz Zsigmond and Babits Mihály would have been impossible without this style. The Hungarian Secession style originated from the attempts of Hungarian artists to combine national traditions and folk art with a contemporary style. The performance particularly highlighted national and folkloric elements, demonstrating a distinctive way of expressing regional characteristics and national identity in Hungary.
