‘반복 이주’ 서사의 심리 기제 분석

국문 초록

이 글은 『초향』, 『바리데기』, 『리나』의 등장인물이 이주를 반복하는 양상에 주목하고 그러한 ‘반복 이주’를 추동하는 심리 기제를 분석함으로써 무엇이 디아스포라 서사의 탈중심적 동력으로 작용하는지를 탐색하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 인류의 오랜 삶의 한 형식이었던 ‘이주’가 지금 이 시대에 갖는 의미를 탐색하는 일은 여전히 세계를 이해하는 중요한 방법론이 될 수밖에 없는 것이기에, 이 글에서는 1940년대 소설과 2000년대 이후의 소설을 텍스트로 하여 비교하는 방식으로 논의를 진행하였다. 1941년에 출간된 한설야의 『초향』은 대상을 향한 운동을 반복하면서 대상을 합체하고 ‘주체에 의한’ 저항성을 획득하게 되는 서사이다. 2007년 작품인 『바리데기』(황석영)의 ‘반복 이주’는 3세계에서 1세계로의 이주라는 보편적 이주 경로를 통해 ‘연대’의 이념을 지향하고 있다는 점에서 중심을 향한 동일화로 볼 수 있다. 즉 『바리데기』에서의 ‘반복’은 행위의 중첩이 아니라 동일한 의미의 병렬인 것이다. 『초향』 또한 이동이 반복되면서 일정한 방향성을 지니게 되고 그것이 저항성이라는 이념으로 수렴되고 있어 『바리데기』처럼 중심지향적 서사로 볼 수 있지만, 이 글에서 주목하는 것은 행위의 반복을 통해 어떻게 새로운 의미가 생성되고 서사에 영향을 미치는가이다. 2006년 작품인 『리나』(강영숙)는 부정성(Negativity)에 의해 탈출을 반복하며 탈중심의 방향으로 이동을 계속하게 되는 서사이다. 반복이란 단순히 ‘동일한 것의 되풀이’가 아니고 습관처럼 되풀이되는 행위의 중첩을 통해 새로운(동일성으로의 회귀가 아닌) ‘무엇’이 생성되는 데에 의미가 있다고 한다면, 『초향』과 『리나』의 ‘반복 이주’ 서사는 ‘이주/탈주’라는 행위의 반복을 통해 저항성, 혹은 탈중심의 방향을 갖게 됨을 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to explore what acts as a decentralized driving force for diaspora narratives by paying attention to the patterns in which characters in Chohyang, Baridegi, and Rina repeate migration and analyzing the psychological mechanisms that drive such ‘repetitive migration.’ Exploring the meaning of “migration”, which has been a form of human life for a long time, is still an important methodology for understanding the world, so the discussion was conducted in this article by comparing novels from the 1940s and after the 2000s with texts. Han Seol-ya's Chohyang, published in 1941, is a narrative in which the movement toward the object is repeated, integrating the object and acquiring resistance 'by the subject'. ‘Repetitive Migration’ of Baridegi(2007) can be seen as an identification toward the center in that it aims for the ideology of “solidarity” through the universal migration route of migration from the three world to the first world. In other words, 'Repetition' in Baridegi is not a superposition of actions, but a parallel of the same meaning. Chohyang also has a certain direction as the movement is repeated, and it is converging into an ideology of resistance, so it can be viewed as a central-oriented narrative like Baridegi, but what this article focuses on is how new meanings are created and influences the narrative through repetition of actions. Rina, published in 2006, is a narrative that repeats the escape due to negativity and continues to move in the direction of decentralization. If repetition is not simply a “repeat of the same thing” but is meaningful in the creation of a new “what” (not a return to identity) through the overlapping of repetitive actions like habits, it was examined that the narrative of “repetitive migration” in Chohyang and 『Rina』 has a resistance or decentralized direction through repetition of the act of “migration/escape”.
