이동과 이주를 보는 역사교육의 관점

국문 초록

이 글에서는 역사 속의 이동과 이주를 역사교육에서 어떻게 다루는지를 교과서를 중심으로 분석하고, 앞으로의 교육 방안을 제시하였다. 역사교과서는 전근대의 이주를 독립적 주제가 아니라 사건의 한 과정으로 서술한다. 근현대사에서는 ‘이주’의 개념을 사용하지만, 한인의 해외 진출에 한정한다. 그래서 현재의 역사교육에서는 이주인의 삶을 국가나 민족의 눈으로만 보고, 이주민 자체의 생각이나 행위에는 주목하지 못한다. 또한 전근대와 근현대 공히 다른 나라나 종족 사람들의 한국 이주에는 관심을 두지 않는다. 역사교육에서 이주의 역사를 학습할 때는 이주민의 다양한 정체성, 인권의 관점으로 접근해야 한다. 이주의 동기나 성격은 다양하다. 이주민의 생각이나 삶은 그들이 속한 계층이나 집단이나 환경, 이주지의 상황에 대한 대응에 영향을 받는다. 이는 이주민의 정체성을 형성한다. 그러므로 역사교육에서 이주의 역사를 다룰 때는 이주민의 주체성과 다양성에 주목해야 한다. 이주민의 정체성은 국가나 민족정체성과 같은 단일한 것이 아니라 다중적이고, 여러 정체성이 상호작용을 하여 복합적으로 형성된다. 이를 밝히는 것은 이주의 역사를 이주민의 주체적 관점으로 인식하는 것이다. 이주민도 하나의 인간이며, 이주의 역사도 인간의 행위이다. 그러므로 이들에 대한 국가 정책이나 사회적 수용을 평가할 때는 인권의 관점을 적용해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed how movement and immigration in history are treated in history teaching, focusing on textbooks, and suggested teaching strategies. Korean history textbooks describe pre-modern migration as a process of events. In modern and contemporary history, the concept of ‘migration’ is used, but it is limited to the overseas expansion of Koreans. Therefore, current history teaching only looks at the lives of immigrants through the eyes of the country or nation, and does not pay attention to the thoughts or actions of the immigrants themselves. Also, both pre-modern and modern times, no attention is paid to the migration of people from other countries or tribes to Korea. When learning the history of migration in history education, it must be approached from the perspectives of migrants' identity, diversity, and human rights. The motives and nature of migration vary among migrants. Migrants' thoughts and lives are influenced by their response to the class or group they belong to, their environment, and the conditions of migration. This forms the identity of immigrants. Therefore, when dealing with the history of immigration in history teaching, we must pay attention to the identity and diversity of immigrants. The identity of immigrants is not a single thing like national or ethnic identity, but is multiple and is formed complexly through the interaction of multiple identities. To accept this point of view is to recognize the history of migration as the subjective perspective of migrants. Migrants are also human beings, and the history of migration is the result of their human acts. Therefore, a human rights perspective must be applied when evaluating national policies or social acceptance of these people.
