국문 초록

최근 몇 년간 중국은 애니메이션 산업 발전에 많은 관심을 집중하고 있다. 중국 정부의 지원 아래, 2015년 이후 상업 애니메이션들이 다수 발표되었고, 많은 호응을 얻고 있다. 특히 중국이 가진 전통 문화에 대한 새로운 시각을 바탕으로 한 애니메이션의 제작이 활발하게 진행되고 있으며, 그 중, ‘중국 희곡’이 접목된 애니메이션이 상당수를 차지하고 있다. 중국 전통 문화가 애니메이션 분야에서 어떠한 양상으로 활용되는지, 그리고 시대에 따라 어떻게 재해석되는지를 추적해 보는 일은 유의미한 일이다. 본 연구는 중국의 전통 문화인 희곡과 애니메이션의 관계를 고찰한 후, 이를 바탕으로 애니메이션 캐릭터 디자인에서 희곡의 구체적인 역할을 분석하고자 한다. 전통 희곡 애니메이션의 대표작이라 할 수 있는 <천서기담(天书奇谭)>(1983)과 중국 전통 문화 전승에 힘입어 제작된 <백사: 연기(白蛇：缘起)>(2019), 이 두 작품 속의 여우 캐릭터 디자인에 나타난 희곡 요소 응용을 비교 분석하고자 한다. 연구결과 <천서기담>과 <백사: 연기> 속의 여우 캐릭터 디자인에서 발견되는 희곡 요소의 응용에 차이가 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. <천서기담>의 여우 캐릭터인 ‘호녀’ 디자인은 중국 전통 민간 장식적 스타일의 특징과 희곡 조형 요소를 갖고 있고, 캐릭터 움직임이 무용 동작을 참고하고 있었다. <백사: 연기>의 ‘보청방주’ 디자인은 외국 캐릭터 디자인의 영향을 받아 희곡 요소와 현대 요소가 공존해 있었으며, 캐릭터 동작은 생활 동작과 희곡 요소 동작의 결합된 양상을 띄고 있었다. 비교 분석을 통해 <백사: 연기>의 여우 캐릭터 디자인이 중국 전통 예술적 특성을 가짐과 동시에 다양한 표현으로 확장성이 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 애니메이션 캐릭터 디자인에 중국 전통 문화인 희곡적 요소를 접목하는 것은 중국 애니메이션 산업 발전에 중요한 역할을 할 것이며, 이는 전통 문화의 보급 보호에도 많은 기여를 할 것이라 기대한다.

영문 초록

In recent years, China has constantly paid great attention to the development of animation industry. With the support of the Chinese government, a number of commercial animations have been released since 2015, receiving much acclaim. In particular, the production of animations is developing vigorously from the new perspective of traditional Chinese culture, including a considerable number of animations integrating “Chinese opera”. It is of great significance to track how traditional Chinese culture has been utilized in the field of animation and how it has been reinterpreted with the advance of the times. Through the investigation review of the relationship between opera and animation, the paper strives to analyze the specific role of opera in animation character design. This study will compare and analyze the application of opera elements in the design of fox characters in the masterpiece of traditional opera animations, the Legend of Sealed Book (2018) and the White Snake: Origin (2019) through inheritance of traditional Chinese culture. The research results show that there are differences in the application of opera elements in the fox character design in the Legend of Sealed Book and the White Snake: Origin. The fox character in the Legend of Sealed Book integrates the characteristics of traditional Chinese folk decoration style and the elements of opera, and the character’s movements refer to the dance movements. While, the design of “Baoqing Workshop Master” in the “White Snake: Origin” is influenced by the design of foreign characters, with coexistence of opera elements and modern elements. In the meantime, its character actions show the combination of life actions and opera elements. By virtue of comparative analysis, it can be seen that the fox character design in the “White Snake: Origin” not only involves the characteristics of traditional Chinese art, but also has the diversity of expression. The integration of traditional Chinese opera elements into animation character design plays an important role in the development of Chinese animation industry, which is expected to make great contributions to the promotion and protection of traditional culture.
