북한 공장대학교 영어교과서 읽기지문에 대한 코퍼스 기반 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 북한 공장대학교 영어교과서 읽기 지문을 분석하여 북한에서 이루어지는 “일하면서 배우는” 성인 고등수준의 영어교육이 가진 특징을 살펴보는 것이다. 북한 공장대학교 영어교과서읽기지문을 코퍼스로 구축하여 Wordsmith, AntConc 그리고 Readable을 이용하여 기초 통계 분석과 어휘 빈도 분석 그리고 이독성 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 주로 과학 및 기술 관련 소재를 다루는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 영어교과와 기술교육을 결합시켜 교육과 산업 현장을 연계하고자 하는 공장대학교의 교육 목표와 부합하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또한, 어휘 다양성과 이독성을 분석한 결과, 북한 고등학교 영어교과서보다 난이도가 급상승하는 것을 발견하였다. 우리나라 수능영어 읽기지문과 비교하였을 때 이독성은 비슷한 수준을 보였다. 이를 바탕으로 남북한 영어 학습 교류의 기초를 마련해 볼 수 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to analyze reading passages found in an English textbook used at Factory College in North Korea and examine the characteristics of English education for adults, particularly “learning while working system” implemented in North Korea. To investigate the linguistic properties; lexical frequency(high frequency vocabulary, keywords, and 4gram) and readability(measured by FKGL and FRE), this corpus-based analysis was conducted with Wordsmith, AntConc and Readable. The findings demonstrate frequent appearance of science and technology terms, and their frequent description. This confirms that North Korea attempts to connect education with industrial sites by combining English and technical education. In addition, as a result of analyzing vocabulary diversity and readability, it was found that the level of difficulty increased rapidly compared to high school English textbooks. The vocabulary appeared less varied than English reading passages of Korean SAT and readability showed a similar level.
