판소리의 시조 수용에 관한 연구

국문 초록

판소리에는 설화, 소설, 무가, 민요, 잡가, 시조, 가사, 한시 등 다양한 장르의 문학이 수용되었다. 이러한 특이점이 일찍 주목을 받아 이에 관한 많은 연구가 이루어졌다. 설화나 소설의 수용은 판소리의 기원 또는 판소리 작품의 형성과정에 관한 연구에서 자세히 다루어졌고, 무가, 민요, 잡가 등 기층 가요의 수용은 판소리 삽입가요 관련 연구에서 자세히 다루어졌다. 그러나 시조, 가사, 한시 등의 수용에 관한 연구는 부진했다. 자료의 부분적인 검토와 간략한 논의가 몇 차례 있었지만, 본격적인 연구는 아직까지 이루어지지 않았다. 이러한 연구 편중 현상이 나타난 것은 그 동안 학계의 관심이 판소리의 서민문학적인 측면 또는 민중문학적인 측면에 집중되어 있었기 때문이다. 그런데 시조, 가사, 한시 등의 수용은 판소리사에 있어서 매우 중요한 부분이다. 왜냐하면 지방민속예술의 하나였던 판소리가 도시대중예술로 변모하는 과정에서 시조, 가사, 한시 등과 같은 상층 장르의 수용이 의미 있는 역할을 담당했을 것이기 때문이다. 이에 시조, 가사, 한시 등의 수용에 관한 연구를 단계적으로 수행하고자 하는데, 본 연구는 그 첫 번째 단계에 해당되는 시조 수용에 관한 연구이다. <춘향가>, <심청가>, <흥보가>, <수궁가>, <적벽가>등 전승5가를 대상으로 판소리의 시조 수용 양상을 검토하고, 판소리의 시조 수용에서 나타나는 특징적 경향과 그 의미, 시조 수용의 배경과 전개과정 등을 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

Pansori took shape and grew luxuriant receiving various literary genres such as tale, novel, shamanist song, folk song, jabga, sijo, gasa, Chinese poetry, etc. This characteristic has caught wide attention from academia of pansori and there have been many studies regarding it: for instance, studies on the adaptation of tale narrative and novel narrative, studies on the insertion of shamanist song, folk song and jabga, and studies on the application of shamanist song’s versification. On the other hand, there has been no study focusing on the reception of sijo or gasa or Chinese poetry, namely literature of the upper class, which is the consequence of the strong tendency to regard pansori as literature of the ruled. For several decades most scholars of Korean literature have devoted themselves to dividing literature of the ruled from literature of the ruling and to discovering the value of literature of the ruled. However, we must remember pansori became a popular art in major cities in the 19th century through receiving literature of the upper class, although it had begun as a part of regional folklore. For those who try to understand present form of pansori which was completed in the 19th century, it is unavoidable to question why and how pansori received sijo, gasa, and Chinese poetry. This paper is the first attempt to approach this issue. It describes why and how sijo was taken and used in pansori, and discusses the meaning of pansori’s receiving sijo in connection with the cultural environment in the 19th century.
