<적벽가>를 통해서 본 웃음의 형식과 그 의미

국문 초록

판소리 <적벽가>는 해학성이 강하게 부가된 작품이다. 등장인물 조조가 그 중심에 서 있는 인물인데, 이 연구에서는 그러한 조조의 역할에 착안하여 <적벽가>에서 웃음을 불러일으키는 방식에 대하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 비정상, 불일치, 부조화와 관련된 다음 세 가지 사실을 통하여 웃음 창출의 기제를 설명하였다.<적벽가>의 웃음에서 주목할 수 있는 첫 번째 특징은 조조와 군사들의 격하를 통한 거리감 해소이다. 격하의 방법은 인물 스스로의 격하, 대화 상대방에 의한 격하, 서술자에 의한 격하 등이 있다. 이때 서술자는 조조에 대한 직접적인 비판을 자저하고 있는데, 이는 웃음의 두 번째 특징인 놀이와 연관된다.조조와 그의 군사들이 펼쳐보이는 사건은 놀이적 성격을 가지며 이 때 현실과의 불일치로 인해 웃음이 생겨난다. 군사들이 설움을 토로하는 대목과 군사들을 점고하는 대목은 그같은 놀이적 특성을 잘 보여주는 부분인데, 조조는 군사들이 설움을 토로하는 장면을 제외하면 놀이판을 이끌어가는 주재자로서의 모습을 보인다. 웃음 표현의 세 번째 특징은 의외성의 강조이다. 이는 <적벽가>만의 특성이라 한정하기는 어렵다. 작품 속 사설이 빚어내는 부조화에 대해서는 시공과 청중의 차이에 따라 수용 결과에 차이가 있을 수 있다. 특히, 기대수준에 대한 조정 과정의 차이는 웃음의 성패와도 연관된다.

The Forms and Meanings of Laughter in Jeokbyeok-gaLee, Joo YoungThe Paonsori song, Jeokbyeok-ga is a noble work assigned witty properties based on the relevant contents in Samguk-ji, ‘Story of the Three Nations.’ As Jojo is a character that stands on the core of such witty contents, this study, taking notice on the problem of what is Jojo’s role, analyzes ways in which Joekbyeok-ga brings about laughter.A first point we can take as a property of laughter in Jeokbyeok-ga is that this song lowers the state of the characters of this song to remove its distance from the audience. There are various ways of lowering such as lowering by the character itself, lowering by the counterpart of a dialogue, and their contents are materialized by use of slang, travestied names and ridiculous features, and abnormal language and behavior. However, the narrator controls himself in directly criticizing Jojo, which is related to playing that we can point out as a second property.The set of events that Jojo and his soldiers show has some properties playing, due to which there arises laughter. Such parts as that in which the soldiers talk about each other’s sadness and that in which Jojo takes a roll call of men well show such properties of playing. On the other hand, Jojo appears as the leader of the scene of playing all the time except the scene in which the soldiers reveal their sadness. Thus, Jojo does not stay only as an object of the sarcasm, but he has the potential to change any time.A third property of laughter expressions in Jeokbyeok-ga is that it reveals unexpectedness considering the standard of the audience’s level. This is related to the fact that conditions of laugher can be differentiated by changes of time and spaces, and by changes of audiences. We have proved that the intervention of the narrator exists on the extension of such a property.
