판소리에서 더늠을 통한 이면의 구현 양상

국문 초록

이 글은 판소리에서 이면과 더늠이 서로 관련이 있다고 보고, 더늠을 통해서 이면이 어떻게 구현되는지 채보 악보를 분석해봄으로써 그 구체적인 양상을 살펴본 글이다. 판소리에서 이면은 ‘사설과 예술적 표현의 들어맞음’이라는 간단한 뜻매김에서부터 ‘소리꾼의 판소리 사설의 해석의 의미’로 그 뜻을 넓혀 잡을 수 있으며 ‘사설을 바탕으로 한 예술적 표현의 새로운 창조’까지도 더욱 그 뜻이 넓어질 수 있다고 보았다. 더늠은 ‘소리꾼들이 판소리의 예술성을 높이기 위해 특별히 개발해 낸 장기’라고 할 수 있는데, 이러한 더늠은 이면을 표현하는 데 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 소리꾼은 자신의 체험이나 세계관, 예술관을 바탕으로 판소리의 이면을 자기 나름대로 해석하고 자신이 해석한 관점에 맞는 예술적 요소를 창안하고 발전시키게 된다. 이 과정에서 새로운 더늠이 생겨나게 된다. 더늠은 대개 예술적 기량이 뛰어난 명창에 의해 개발되기 때문에 흔히 명창제 더늠이라 일컫는다. 예술적 요소 중에서 가장 중요하다고 여겨지는 것이 음악인데, 그 가운데서도 악조를 중심으로 판소리 이면이 어떻게 구현되는지, 판소리 여러 대목의 악보를 통해 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 더늠은 소리꾼들과 판소리 감상층이 요구하는 이면을 그려내는데 기여하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 판소리는 우리네 삶의 감정의 복잡한 양상을 음악으로 담아내야 하기 때문에, 이면의 다양한 해석과 그에 따른 표현기법이 필요하다. 더늠은 이러한 다양한 표현을 가능하게 해주어 판소리 음악을 더욱 풍부하게 만들어 준다. 요컨대, 판소리에서는 더늠을 통해 이면을 구현하고, 소리꾼들은 이면의 재해석을 통해 새로운 더늠을 창조한다.

영문 초록

This paper investigated the relationship between Imyeon(a form of description interpretation) and Deoneum(personal style) in Pansori(a traditional Korean narrative song). By analyzing the music, this study also investigated specific aspects of how Imyeon is embodied through the use of Deoneum. Imyeon in Pansori is simply defined as a suitability between the description and expression of art. This concept is extended as an interpretation of a description of the singer. In addition, it can also be considered to be a new form of expression of art based on description. Deoneum is the singer’s specialty, which is developed by the singer to promote the artistry of Pansori. It plays an important part in expressing Imyeon. Pansori singers interpret the Imyeon of Pansori in their own way on the basis of their experiences, view of the world, and their view on art. They also devise and develop artistic elements that suit their viewpoint. In this process, a newly developed Deoneum is referred to as a master singer’s Deoneum because it is developed by a master singer who has excellent artistic skills. As the most important of the artistic elements is the music, I analyzed how Imyeon, through the Acjo(musical tone) of the music, is embodied in Pansori by studying the sheet music of several Pansori songs. As a result, I can confirm that Deoneum contributes to the expression of Imyeon that is required by Pansori singers and audiences. Since Pansori must contain an aspect of complex feelings that relate to our lives, it requires varying interpretations of Imyeon and expressive techniques in accordance with the interpretations. Deoneum enables these varying expressions and makes Pansori more meaningful. In short, in the Pansori, Imyeon is embodied through Deoneum, and singers create new Deoneum by reinterpreting Imyeon.
