떼이야르 드 샤르댕의 ‘통합의 형이상학(Métaphysique de l'Union)’의 개념과 의의 그리고 ‘과정철학’과의 관계에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

떼이야르 드 샤르댕에게 있어서 ‘형이상학’이란 ‘세계관으로서의 학문’을 의미하는데, ‘총체성으로서의 세계’에 대한 해명(solution) 혹은 비전(vision)을 말한다. 따라서 근원적인 것이나 궁극적인 것에 대한 질문은 형이상학의 몫이다. 형이상학은 또한 도덕적 행위의 기초원리가 된다. 왜냐하면 도덕(morale)이란 그것을 통해 한 개인이 자신의 행동의 문제를 결정하고 해결하는 ‘총체적 시스템’을 의미하기 때문이다. 아리스토텔레스에서 비롯한 스콜라철학의 형이상학이 ‘정적인 형이상학’이라면, ‘진화론적 비전’에 근거한 현대의 형이상학은 ‘변화와 과정’을 문제 삼고 있는 ‘역동적인 형이상학’이다. 현대에 있어서 종교와 과학의 일치 혹은 화해란 이 두 형이상학을 일치시키는 것을 의미하는데, 이것이 곧 ‘통합(일치)의 형이상학(Métaphysique de l'Union)’이 의미하는 것이다. 통합의 형이상학이 ‘진화현상’과 관련된 ‘변화’ ‘되어짐’ ‘변모’ 등의 ‘과정’에 대한 문제를 다루고 있다는 차원에서 이는 현대철학에서 주목받고 있는 ‘과정철학(Process philosophy)’과 유사하거나 연관성을 가지고 있다. 하지만 ‘과정철학’은 전통 형이상학으로부터의 이탈을 의미하나 ‘통합의 형이상학’은 전통형이상학의 갱신 혹은 쇄신을 의미하기 때문에 ‘통합의 형이상학’을 ‘과정철학 중 하나’로 볼 수는 없으며, 다만 통합의 형이상학의 내부에서 ‘일종의 과정철학’이 발견된다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

For Teilhard de Chardin, ‘metaphysics’ means ‘science as a worldview’, and it refers to a solution or vision for the ‘world as a totality’. Thus, the question of the fundamental or the ultimate rests with metaphysics. Metaphysics is also the foundational principle of moral action. This is because morale means a ‘total system’ through which an individual decides and solves the problem of his or her behavior. If the metaphysics of scholastic philosophy including Aristotle are 'static metaphysics', modern metaphysics based on ‘evolutionary vision’ is a ‘dynamic metaphysics’ that takes issues of ‘change and process’. In modern times, the unity or reconciliation of religion and science means the unity of these two metaphysics, which is what the ‘metaphysics of union’ means. In the sense that the metaphysics of union deals with the problems of ‘process’ such as ‘change’, ‘become’ and ‘transformation’ related to ‘evolutionary phenomenon’, it is similar to ‘the philosophy of the process’, which is attracting attention in modern philosophy. However, the metaphysics of union cannot be regarded as ‘one of the process philosophies’ because ‘process philosophy’ means a departure from the traditional metaphysics, but the metaphysics of union means the renewal of the traditional metaphysics. So it can be said that a kind of ‘process philosophy’ is found within the metaphysics of union.
