고흥 충절인물 송제·송덕일의 활동과 현창

국문 초록

전라남도 기념물‘남양송씨쌍충일렬각(南陽宋氏雙忠一烈閣)’ 에 명정된 남양송씨(南陽宋氏) 송제(宋悌)와 조카 송덕일(宋德馹)의 생애와 활동에 주목하였다. 임진왜란 동안 활동한 두 충신이 조선 후기‘쌍충’정려를 받는다. 쌍충 정려에 명정된 송제와 송덕일의 행적을 당대의 기록과 사후의 기록을 살펴본 후, 후손들이 선조(先祖)를 현창하는 일면을 찾아보았다. 두 충신 송제와 송덕일의 행적을 살피면서 남양송씨대동보􀀀 와 한국역대인물을 소개하는 누리집에서 이들의 출생 시기와 과거급제 시기, 사망 시기, 행적의 오류를 바로잡았다. 송제는 1559년 태어나 1585년 무과 급제하였다. 송덕일은 1565년 태어나 1591년 무과 급제하였다. 송제는 1593년 2차 진주성전투에서 충청병사 황진에게 소속되어 당진현감으로 참전하여 35세 나이로 순절하였다. 송제는 선무원종공신 2등으로 책훈, 진주 창렬사에 배향되었다. 조카 송덕일은 이순신 휘하의 군관으로 활동하다가 종전 후 1603년 목포만호, 1604년 임치진첨사, 1605년에서 1606년까지 진도군수로 재임한다. 1605년 선무원종공신 2등으로 녹훈된다. 이어 1611년 동관첨사, 1615년 부령부사를 역임하면서 부령산성의 적개루를 축조하였다. 1617년 송덕일은 삼도수군통제사로 천거되었다. 송덕일은 1594년부터 1595년까지 삼도수군통제사 이순신의 군관으로 한산도와 전라좌수영을 오고가며 군관으로 군무를 살폈다. 일부 자료에서 송덕일은 1597년 진도군수로 명량해전에 참전하여 적장 마다시를 사살한 것으로 기록하였으나, 1597년 진도군수는 선의문이며, 송덕일이 진도군수로 부임한 해는 1605년이다. 이러한 이유로 송덕일이 1597년 9월 명량해전에 참전하였다는 것은 무리가 있다. 문중 자료에는 송덕일이 1616년 8월 16일로 심하전투에서 전사하였다고 서술되어 있다. 이날은 송덕일이 오랑캐 박수희를 붙잡은 공로로 가선대부로 가자되어 상가교서가 발급된 날이다. 송제와 송덕일은 고흥 운곡사에 모셔져 있다.

영문 초록

I paid attention to the life and activities of Namyang Song Clan Song Je and his nephew Song Deok-il, who are named in the Namyang Song Clan Ssangchung Ilyeolgak, a monument in Jeollanam-do. Two loyal subjects who were active during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 were treated as ‘ssangchung’ in the late Joseon Dynasty. After examining the records of the time and posthumous records of Songje and Song Deok-il, which were specified in the Ssangchung Jeongryeo, I looked for the side of descendants honoring their ancestors. While examining the tracks of the two loyalists Songje and Song Deok-il, there were errors in the time of birth, the time of passing the civil service exam, and the time of death in the website introducing Namyang Song Clan Daedongbo and historical figures in Korea. Songje was born in 1559 and passed the military examination in 1585. Song Deok-il was born in 1565 and passed the military examination in 1591. In the second battle of Jinjuseong in 1593, Song Je belonged to Hwang Jin, a Chungcheong soldier, participated in the battle as Dangjin County Governor and died at the age of 35. Songje was enshrined in Chaekhun and Changryeolsa Temple in Jinju as the 2nd class meritorious subject of Seonmuwon. His nephew Song Deok-il worked as a military officer under Yi Sun-sin, and after the war, Song Deok-il served as Mokpo Manho in 1603, Imchijincheomsa in 1604, and Jindo county governor from 1605 to 1606. Subsequently, while serving as Donggwancheomsa in 1611 and Buryeongbusa in 1615, he built Jeokgaeru in Buryeong Fortress. In 1617, Song Deok-il was also recommended as the Samdo Sugun Commander. From 1594 to 1595, Song Deok-il went back and forth between Hansando and Jeollajwasuyeong as an officer of Yi Sun-sin, the commander of the naval forces in Samdo, and supervised military affairs as an officer. Some sources record that Song Deok-il participated in the Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597 as the governor of Jindo and killed Madashi, the enemy commander. For this reason, it is unreasonable to say that Song Deok-il participated in the Battle of Myeongnyang in September 1597. Family materials describe that Song Deok-il died on August 16, 1616 in the Battle of Simha. In 1616, he was allowed to go to Gaseondaebu for his merits in catching Park Soo-hee, a barbarian, and this was the day when the Sangga Gyoseo was issued. Songje and Songdeokil are enshrined at Ungoksa in Goheung.
