정탁의 이순신 구명활동과 그 함의

국문 초록

이 글은 정탁의 이순신 구명활동과 그 함의를 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 정탁의 생애와 학풍 및 이순신과의 소통·관계, 정탁의 이순신 구명관련 소신발언(어전회의에서의)과 상소문, 정탁의 이순신 구명활동의 함의를 살펴본 후 결론을 도출해 본 것이다. 정탁은 이순신의 친구이자 평생 천거· 후원자인 유성룡과 동일한 이황의 문인이기도 하고 유성룡과 함께 이순신을 전라좌수사로 천거하기도 했다. 정탁과 이순신의 소통관계는 『난중일기』에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 정탁은 이순신의 목숨이 위기에 처했을 때 어전회의에서 이순신을 위한 소신발언을 하고 이순신이 하옥되자 상소문을 올려 이순신을 구명할 수 있었다. 정탁의 이순신 구명활동의 함의는 ①정탁이 중심이 된 이순신 구명, ②정탁의 인명존중, 인재중시 사상의 결실로 요약해 볼 수 있다. 정탁은 외유내강의 직언과 용기, 베풂의 넓은 도량, 인정과 용서, 미덕의 정신, 인명존중·인재중시 사상을 실천·발현하여 구국의 영웅 이순신을 구명함으로써 결과적으로는 나라를 구원하는데 크게 기여하였다. 당시 유학의 가르침을 충실히 실천한 휴머니스트인 정탁은 우리에게 많은 교훈과 시사점을 주고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is intended to analyze Jeong Tak's activities to save Yi Sun-sin and its implications. To this end, the conclusion was drawn after examining Jeong Tak's life and academic(school) tradition, Jeong Tak's communication and relationship with Yi Sun-sin, Jeong Tak's remarks(in the conference in the presence of the King) and appeals, and the implications of Jeong Tak's activities to save Yi Sun-sin. Jeong Tak is Yi Hwang's same disciple, like Yoo Seong-ryong, Yi Sun-sin's friend and lifelong recommender and supporter, and he also recommended Yi Sun-sin as a Jeolla Jwasusa(Naval Commander of Left Jeolla Province) along with Yoo Seong-ryong. The communication relationship between Jeong Tak and Yi Sun-sin can also be found in Nanjung Ilgi(War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin). When Yi Sun-shin's life was in danger, Jeong Tak made a statement of his conviction for Yi Sun-sin at a council meeting, and when Yi Sun-sin was imprisoned, he presented an appeal to the king to save Yi Sun-sin. The implications of Jeongtak's life saving activities can be summarized as ①the life saving of Yi Sun-sin centered on Jeongtak, ②the fruits of Jeongtak's respect for human life and talent -oriented ideas.　Jeong Tak practised and expressed the directness and courage of external flexibility and internal rigidity, the broadness of giving, recognition and forgiveness, the spirit of virtue, and the importance of respect for life and talent, and eventually contributed greatly to saving the country. Jeongtak, a humanist who faithfully practiced the teachings of Confucianism at the time, teaches us many lessons and implications.
