지수의 범위를 정수에서 유리수로 확장할 때 교과서 기술에 나타나는 논리적 비약에 대한 분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 수학I 교과서에서 지수 범위를 확장할 때 사용하는 기술 패턴을 ‘가정적(분석적) 기술’과 ‘종합적 기술’ 등의 2가지로 분류하고, 지수의 범위를 정수에서 유리수로 확장하는 경우 정의의 발견 과정에 대한 교과서의 기술에 나타나는 논리적 비약과 이를 동일하게 포함하고 있음에도 가정적 기술은 오류로 간주하는 반면 종합적 기술은 오류가 아니라고 보는 고등학교 수학교사 A의 관점 및 그 원인을 분석하였다. 교과서에서는 유리수 지수의 정의에 대한 발견 과정을 형식불역의 원리의 적용 순서에 따라 단계적으로 제시하기보다 압축적으로 재조직하여 최대한 효율적인 기술을 시도하고 있는 바, 이러한 기술 전략이 분석과 종합의 발견적 논리를 약화시키고 논리적 비약을 개재시킴으로써 정의를 발견하는 과정에 대한 이해를 어렵게 만들어 교사 A로 하여금 형식주의적 입장을 취하도록 하는 원인이 되고 있는 것으로 드러났다. 따라서 현행 수학I 교과서에서 관련 부분의 기술을 보완하고 지도서에 상세한 설명이 추가되어야 할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

In this study, the patterns of description adopted in high school Mathematics I textbooks in accordance with the 2015-revised curriculum while expanding the range of the exponent by applying the principle of the permanence of equivalent forms are classified into two categories; hypothetical (analytic) description and synthetic description. While expanding the range of exponents from integers to rational numbers, the logical leap that intervenes in description of the process of discovering the definition of rational exponent in the textbooks was analyzed. At first, the logical leap was identified when I replied to the question raised by a high school mathematics teacher through e-mail. From my analysis, it was found that it originate from the necessity of a textbook to describe the content as efficiently and concisely as possible. The textbooks describe the way to arrive at the definition of the rational exponent by reorganizing it rather than presenting it step by step along the discovery process, which is found to weaken heuristic power of the analysis and synthesis and hinder the teacher’s understanding of the process of discovering the definition. In this respect, it is necessary to revise the relevant part of the current high school Mathematics I textbooks and supplement the precise and detailed explanation in the teachers’ guide books.
