국문 초록

많은 사람이 인류는 현재 4차산업혁명이라는 시대를 통과하고 있다고 말한다. 4차산업혁명과 그 기술이 인류를 진보시킬 것이라는 믿음은 디지털 기술이 만들어내는 폐해에 대해서 눈감게 한다. 자본과 결합한 4차산업혁명이 사실상 세계적거대자본과 이에 부합한 이들의 요란한 잔치일 가능성이 높다. 4차산업혁명의 선두 분야로 불리며 투자를 받던 많은 기술 분야들은 슬그머니 고개를 숙이고 있는 가운데 부상하고 있는 분야는 메타버스다. 기업과 정부, 개인들까지 나서서열광하지만 그 이면은 다르다. 엘리트에겐 경제적 성공의 욕망이, 개인에겐 소외에 대한 불안감이 내재되어 있다. 이미 오래된 이야기를 재탕하는 듯 진부한 4차산업혁명과 메타버스에는 기술이 인간의 삶을 풍요롭게 한다는 가치는 증발하고오직 경제적 관념만이 횡횡하는 텅빈 공간이 보인다. 이처럼 디지털 문명의 진보라는 명분을 위해, 인간을 편 가르고 소외시키는 '인공두뇌적 전체주의(Cybernetic Totalism)'가 바로 4차산업혁명과 메타버스와 본질에 가깝다. 인간은 디지털세계라는 벌집 속의 벌이 아니라 감성과 창의성을 가진 독립적인 존재라는 사실을 이해한다면 4차산업혁명과 메타버스가 사실상 정치·경제적 수사에가까운 개념임을 인지할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

It is said that mankind is currently passing through the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the belief that technology will advance mankind make us blind to the harm digital technology creates. It is highly likely that the Fourth Industrial Revolution, combined with capital, is actually a noisy feast for global large capital and those who match it. While many technology sectors, which have been called the leading field of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and have received investment, are quietly bowing their heads, the emerging field is Metaverse. Companies, the government, and individuals are enthusiastic, but the other side is different. The elite have an inherent desire for economic success, and the individual has an inherent anxiety about alienation. In the 4th Industrial Revolution and Metaverse, which are already clichés as if rehashing old stories, the value of technology enriching human life evaporates and there is an empty space where only economic ideas are rampant. As such, for the cause of progress in digital civilization, “Cybernetic Totalism,” which divides and alienates humans, is close to the 4th Industrial Revolution and Metaverse and essence. If you understand that humans are not bees in the digital world, but independent beings with emotions and creativity, you will be able to recognize that the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Metaverse are actually concepts close to political and economic rhetoric.
