장애인들이 체험한 메타버스 플랫폼의 특징과 디지털 정보 접근성

국문 초록

연구목적: 이 연구는 장애인들이 메타버스를 경험할 때 나타나는 특징을 알아보았다. 장애인들에게 메타버스가 신체적 한계를 보완하며 많은 편리함을 가져다주는지, 반대로 오히려 불편함이 더 큰지를 살펴보았다. 연구방법: 이 연구는 여러 유형의 장애인들을 대상으로 메타버스 체험을 요청한 후 메타버스 경험에 대해 심층 인터뷰를 하고 그 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과: 장애인들은 메타버스를 경험한 후 새롭고 신기함, 사람들과 만날 수 있음, 쉽고 재미있음, 부족한 실용성, 어지러움, 부족한 사용성, 나를 대신하는 아바타 등을 진술하였다. 장애유형별 특징을 살펴보면 청각 장애인들은 이어폰 사용을 보완할 기술이 필요했고, 시각 중증 장애인은 이용하기가 불편해서 사용할 수 없다고 말했다. 지체 장애인들은 메타버스가 가지 않고도 체험할 수 있다는 점, 차별적 시선을 못 느낀다는 점에서 긍정적이었으나 손이 불편하면 사용하기 어렵다는 점을 지적했다. 결론: 장애인들에게 메타버스가 도움이 되고 확산되기 위해서는 장애유형별 기기 개발과 지원이 필요하고, 보완 기술을 마련해서 디지털 정보 접근성을 높일 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study investigated the characteristics of people with disabilities when they experience metaverse. Method: This study conducted in-depth interviews after asking people with various types of disabilities to experience the metaverse and analyzed the data. Results: After experiencing the metaverse, people with disabilities stated that they were new and novel, that they could meet people, that they were easy and fun, that they lacked practicality, that they felt dizzy, that they lacked usability, and that avatars representing themselves. Looking at the characteristics of each type of disability, the hearing impaired needed technology to supplement the use of earphones, and the visually impaired said that they could not use it. Conclusion: In order for the metaverse to help and spread to the disabled, it is necessary to develop and support devices for each type of disability, and to increase digital information accessibility by preparing complementary technologies.
