노년기 혼인상태가 문제음주에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 논문은 노년기의 혼인상태와 문제음주간의 관계에서 자아존중감의 조절효과를 검증하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 한국보건사회연구원과 서울대학교 사회복지연구소에서 실시한 2019년 한국복지패널의 자료를 활용하여 60세 이상의 노인 총 5,892명을 대상으로연구를 수행하였다. 분석방법은 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하여 인구통계학적 변수와 건강관련 변수를 단계적으로 투입하고, 혼인상태가문제음주에 미치는 영향에 자아존중감의 조절효과를 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 성별, 나이, 교육수준, 소득수준, 건강상태, 만성질환 제한이노년기의 혼인상태와 유의하게 관련되었다. 노년기의 혼인상태(유배우자, 무배우자)와 문제음주 관계에서 주효과가 유의하게 나타났고, 자아존중감의 조절효과에서는 유배우자 집단에서 무배우자 집단보다 유의한 영향력이 더 크게 나타났다. 추가적으로 유배우자 상태의노인과 각 무배우자 상태(사별, 이혼, 별거)의 노인을 나누어 분석한 결과, 사별집단의 노인들이 유배우자 집단의 노인들보다 문제음주를많이 하였지만, 유배우자 집단에서 자아존중감의 조절효과가 유의하게 나타났다. 이혼 집단 노인들은 유배우자 집단의 노인들에 비해문제음주를 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났고, 자아존중감의 조절효과에서도 유의미한 결과가 나타났다. 또한, 이혼상태와 다른 무배우자상태(사별, 별거)의 노인들을 나누어 분석을 실시한 결과, 이혼 상태의 노인들이 사별을 한 노인들 보다 문제음주를 더 많이 하며 자아존중감의 조절효과에서도 유의미한 결과가 나왔다. 본 연구 결과는 노년기 혼인상태에 따른 문제음주에 대한 영향력과 자아존중감 차이에대한 이해의 필요성을 강조한다. 더불어 변화된 혼인상태에서 문제음주가 노인에 삶에 미치는 영향과 삶의 질을 높이기 위한 노력에대한 제언을 논의한다.

영문 초록

The present study examined the relationship between marital status and problematic drinking and the moderating effect of self-esteem among Korean older adults. The samples were drawn from the 2019 Korean Welfare Panel Study, and we analyzed a total of 5,892 adults aged 60 or older based on marital status, living with their partner, widowed, divorced people, and separated. The hierarchical regression was used to analyze whether the relationship between marital status and alcohol consumption among older adults varied by the level of self-esteem. The results were shown that demographic and health-related factors were associated with unmarried status and problematic drinking, but more interaction effect of self-esteem on the married status. An additional analysis was conducted by comparing living with partners and each unit of unmarried status, widowed, divorced people, and separated to determine which group would have more problematic drinking. Older people who were widowed had problematic drinking, but there was an interaction effect of the self-esteem on people who are in married status. Divorced people were significantly consumed more alcohol than the participants who live with their partners, and it varied by their self-esteem. The divorced people also consumed more alcohol than the widowed, and it also changed depending on their self-esteem. Finding from this study highlight the significant role of transition in marital status as people get older and each one's level of self-esteem to reduce alcohol consumption, which could be related to alcohol abuse. Future implications were discussed to improve older adults' quality of life by reducing alcohol consumption and giving support.
