국문 초록

본 논문은 백성욱 박사의 경제사상을 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 그의 생애와 연구업적, 그의 경제사상, 그의 생활경제 실천덕목을 살펴본 후 결론을 도출해본 것이다. 그는 독립운동가, 학자, 수행자, 정치인, 교육자로서 특히 한국 근현대불교사에서 중요한 위치를 차지하는 인물이다. 그는 국내외를 막론하고 한국인으로서 불교학 1호 박사로서 불교철학의 기본이론을 정립하고 금강경 독송을 기본으로 삼아 수행하여 수많은 제자들을 배출하였다. 백성욱 박사의 경제사상은 크게 ①삼기사회조직론, ②평등·불평등의 상대론(조화론), ③사원경제 현대적 운영론으로 요약·정리해볼 수 있다. 그의 생활경제 실천덕목은 크게 ①근면과 보시, ②지행합일, ③작복 등으로 정리해볼 수 있다. 백성욱 박사의 불교사상 및 사회·경제사상은 ①체계적·논리적 일관성 유지, ②재가자·출가자 공히 실천가능한 덕목의 구비의 특징을 지니고 있어 향후 불교의 현대화·대중화에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This paper is intended to analyze Ph. D. Baek Sung-wook's economic thought. To this end the paper is composed of 5 chapters titled introduction; the life and research achievements of Ph. D.. Baek Sung-wook; the economic thought of Ph. D. Baek Sung-wook; Ph.D. Baek Sung-wook's practice virtues for the living economy; and conclusion. As an independence activist, scholar, attendant, politician, and educator, he is a particularly important figure in modern and contemporary Buddhist history in Korea. As the No. 1 Ph.D. in Buddhist studies, both at home and abroad, he established the basic theory of Buddhist philosophy and carried out the practice based on the recitation of the Geumganggyeong, producing numerous disciples. Ph. D. Baek Sung-wook's economic thought can be largely summarized as ①triad social organization theory, ②the relative theory of equality and inequality(harmony), and ③the theory of modern management of temple economy. His practical virtues for the living economy can be largely summarized as ①diligence and almsgiving, ②uniting knowledge and conduct ③making happiness. The Buddhist thought and social and economic thought of Ph. D. Baek Sung-wook are expected to contribute greatly to the modernization and popularization of Buddhism, as they are characterized by ①maintaining systematic and logical consistency, and ②having virtue that can be practiced by both a monk and a lay person.
