국문 초록

본 논문은 맹자의 정치사상이 조선시대 정도전의 민본정신과 역성혁명에 어떻게 수렴되었는가, 어떤 영향을 미쳤는가를 분석하였다. 맹자의 정치사상의 핵심인 민본사상, 왕도정치, 역성혁명은 기본적으로 당대의 시대적 상황에 대한 인식을 바탕으로 한 위민(爲民), 보민(保民), 애민(愛民)을 바탕으로 하는 것이었다. 정도전 역시 고려 말의 사회경제적, 정치적 상황에 대한 인식을 바탕으로 백성을 위하는 정치, 사회, 경제적 개혁사상을 꿈꾸었다. 혼란한 시대를 극복하고자 하는 사상가, 정치가로서의 정도전의 인식 밑에는 맹자의 정치사상적 요체가 깊게 뿌리를 하고 있다. 맹자와 정도전의 사상은 공통적으로 첫째, 민본정신은 통치의 기본 전제조건이라는 점, 둘째, 민의(民意)는 정권교체의 정당성의 근거가 된다는 점을 밝히고 있다. 이와 같은 맹자의 민본사상은 조선 초의 정도전뿐만 아니라 중후기의 대동법을 주장한 김육, 정조 대에 개혁정치를 주창한 다산 정약용 등에게까지 관통하는 중요한 사상적 토대가 되었다. 21세기 한국사회가 안고 있는 시대적 과제, 즉 백성들이 골고루 인간다운 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 정치행정, 사회경제적 제도를 만들어 가는 과제를 안고 있다. 맹자와 정도전의 사상을 통해 우리는 제도개혁에 앞서 정치지도자들에게는 위민, 보민, 애민의 민본주의에 기반한 국정철학이 필요하다는 점을 다시금 깨닫게 된다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes how Mencius's view on politics acted on Jeong Do-jeon's people-oriented idea and dynastic revolution, and what influence it had. Mencius's core political thoughts such as people-oriented ideology, ruling by virtue and dynastic revolution are fundamentally associated with cherishing people, protecting people and loving people on the basis of the perception of contemporary situations. Jeong Do-jeon also dreamed ideas of political, social and economic reformation for the people based on his perception of socioeconomic and political situations in the late Goryeo period. In the thoughts of Jeong Do-jeon, the thinker politician to overcome the tumultuous years, Mencius's pivotal political ideas were deeply rooted. The thoughts of Mencius and Jeong Do-jeon are commonly elucidating first, people-oriented ideology is the basic prerequisite of ruling the nation and then, the will of the people is the legitimate basis of power change. Thus, Mencius's people-oriented concept was a significant ideological foundation for not only Jeong Do-jeon in the early Joseon period, but Kim Yuk who initiated Daedongbeop in the late middle period of the dynasty and Jeong Yak-yong, the advocate of political reformation in the reign of King Jeongjo. The Korean society in the 21st century has a task of preparing political, administrative and socioeconomic systems for people to evenly live like a human being. Once again we are aware, through the thoughts of Mencius and Jeong Do-jeon, that political leaders need ruling ideas based on people-oriented ideology of cherishing people, protecting people and loving people.
