국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 단재 신채호의 역사관과 민족운동의 성격을 살펴 보고자 한다. 그에 있어 역사인식은 애국심의 원천이며, 민족의 국권회복을 위한 중요한 수단이다. 그가 제시한 역사는 전통적 유교사관과 식민지사관을 극복한 민족의 주체성 회복을 위한 새로운 역사라 할 수 있다. 새로운 역사인식은 그의 민족운동의 변천과 연계되어 체계화되고 있다. 이러한 시기는 먼저, 민족 애국심 배양을 위한 신역사를 독사신론을 통해 제시하고 있다. 애국계몽기 민족의 국권회복을 위한 수단으로 역사서를 민족에게 제공한 것이다. 다음으로 민족운동의 방향성 전환으로 역사를 ‘아(我)’와 ‘비아(非我)’의 투쟁의 역사로 투쟁적 사관을 ‘조선상고사(1924)’에서 제시하고 있다. 민족운동과 역사기술은 상호 연계성이 높게 나타나고 있다. 신채호의 민족운동은 애국심 배양을 위한 독사신론과 투쟁적 민족을 위한 조선상고자를 통해 민족이 처한 시대적 환경을 반영하여 나타나고 있는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims at examining Danjae Shin Chae-ho's view of history and the characteristics of his national movement. His historical perception involves the source of patriotism and a significant means to restore the national sovereignty. He proposed a new history for the restoration of Korean national identity to overcome traditional Confucian views of history and colonialist historiography. This new perception of history is correlated with his shift in the national movement and thus systematized. This period saw his presentation of Doksasillon through the new history for cultivating patriotism among people. That is, he provided the nation with the history text as a means to restore the national sovereignty in the period of patriotism and enlightenment. And then, as a shift of direction in the national movement, he presented a view of history as struggles between 'true self' and 'false self' in Joseon Sanggosa (Ancient history of Korea)(1924). The national movement and historiography reveal highly correlative aspects. Shin Chae-ho's national movement reflects the circumstances of the age in which Korea was situated through Doksasillon for the cultivation of patriotism and Joseon Sanggosa for the struggles of the nation.
