국문 초록

불교는 본래 승가공동체로 시작된 종교이다. 따라서 공동체로 살던 오랜 전통이 남아 있고, 특히 고려시대와 조선시대 향도나 승도, 결사 마을공동체의 중요한 근거지역할을 했다. 최근 기후위기시대 풀뿌리 자치와 협동조합, 마을공동체 등이 생태적 대안사회운동으로 주목을 받으면서 불교의 공동체적 시도에 대해 주목하게 되었다. 이 글에는 크게 5가지로 분류하여 불교의 공동체를 소개한다. ① <지역공동체와 함께하는 사찰>은 대각사, 대광명사, 성림사, 선덕사, 미황사, 화엄사, 마음재단 등 지역의 주민들을 지원하고 돕는 역할을 하는 곳이며 ② <마을공동체의 중심인 사찰>은 실상사과 낙산사, 관음사 처럼 마을의 공동체적 관계를 만드는 중심역할을 하는 사찰 ③ <승가공동체, 계획공동체>로서 정토회나 행복한 절과 같이 수행하면서 함께 사는 초기의 승가공동체와 같이 살고 있는 곳이며 ④ <불교가 기반이 된 공동체>의 경우는 들꽃피는 마을, 우리동네사람들, 소호산촌협동조합 등, 공동체 성격이 불교를 표방하고 있지는 않지만 초기 시작한 사람들이 불교의 수행이 동력이 되어 시작된 공동체들이다. ⑤ <출자가 공동체>는 대부분의 선방과 사찰이 출가자 공동체이지만 모두 언급할 수없어서 <백장암>만 소개하는 것으로 했다. 이러한 실험들은 불교가 새로워지는 모색의 과정이며 대안적인 미래를 만드는 노력의 과정으로 성공이나 실패든 결과가 아니라 과정적으로 볼때 모두가 큰 의미가 있는 성과가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

Buddhism is a religion that originally began as a monk community. Therefore, there remains a long tradition of living as a community, and in particular, it served as an important basis for village communities such as Hyangdo, Seungdo, and Geolsa during the Goryeo Dynasty and Joseon Dynasty. In the recent climate crisis, grassroots autonomy, cooperatives, and village communities have drawn attention as ecological alternative social movements, drawing attention to Buddhist community attempts. This article introduces the community of Buddhism by classifying it into five main categories. ① is a place that supports and helps local residents such as Daegak-sa Temple, Daegwangmyeong-sa Temple, Seongnim-sa Temple, Seondeok-sa Temple, Mihwang-sa Temple, Hwaeom-sa Temple, and Maeum(Heart)Foundation ② plays a central role in creating a community relationship in the village, such as Silsang-sa, Naksan-sa Temple and Gwaneum-sa Temple ➂ As a , it is a place where people live together with the early Sangha community, performing together with the Jungto-hoe or Happy Temple ④ In the case of the , the characteristics of the community, such as Wildflower villages, Our towns People and Soho Mountain Village Cooperatives, do not advocate Buddhism, but those who started in the early days were the driving force for the practice of Buddhism. ⑤ The is a community of Buddhist monks and temples, but it was decided to introduce only because not all of them could be mentioned. These attempts are the process of seeking new Buddhism and the process of trying to create an alternative future, and whether it is a success or failure, it will be a result of great significance in terms of the process.
