채만식 소설에 나타난 문학의 수용 양상 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 채만식의 장편소설 『人形의 집을 나와서』를 입센의 희곡 『인형의 집』을 바탕으로 해서 재창조를 통한 문학의 수용 양상을 살펴보고자 한다. 이것은 근대 문학에서 ‘수용(受容)’의 의미가 지닌 진정한 가치를 인식하기 위해서이다. 우선 작품의 창작 배경을 식민지 조선의 가부장제 현실과 채만식의 생활 체험을 통한 여성에 대한 의식에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 또한 문학의 영향으로 입센과의 상호 관련성을 비교함으로써 단순한 모방이 아닌, 새로운 서사와 공간의 형태로 이루어진다는 점이다. 다음으로 채만식의 소설 『人形의 집을 나와서』에서 구체적으로 ‘여성(女性)’의 변모 양상을 짚어본다. ‘노라’는 주체가 놓인 관습적 상황을 부정하지만 타개하기 힘든 빈곤한 상황에 놓인다. 하지만 생존을 위한 고통이 자아를 획득하기 위한 과정이었다는 것과, 부조리한 현실에 대해 계급적 각성으로 극복하고자 하는 의지가 발현된다. 여기서 중요한 점은, 채만식의 『人形의 집을 나와서』는 입센의 ‘개인과 개인(노라/남편)’의 관계성을 넘어, ‘개인과 사회(노라/집단)’라는 대립적 구도를 형성하고 있다는 사실이다. 즉 입센의 ‘집’이라는 좁은 공간의 형태를, 채만식은 ‘집을 나와서’라는 넓은 공간의 형태로 변형시켜 사실적 체현으로 구체화시킨다. 이와 같이 채만식은 문학의 상호텍스트성을 통해 보다 실천적인 ‘여성 해방’의 가능성을 작품에서 제시하고 있는 것이다.

영문 초록

This thesis attempts to observe aspects of literary acceptance through the full-length novel 『Out of the Dollhouse』 of Chae Man-sik, which is a recreation based on the play 『The Doll House』 by Ibsen. This is to recognize the true value of the meaning of ‘acceptance’ in modern literature. First, the creative background of the work can be found in a consciousness of women through patriarchal realities of colonial Joseon and through the living experiences of Chae Man-sik. Also, as it makes comparisons of correlations with Ibsen under literary effects, it is composed as a new narrative and space and not as simple emulation. Next, it (this thesis) specifically points out aspects of female transfiguration in the novel 『Out of the Dollhouse』 by Chae Man-sik. ‘Nora’ rejects the customary situation created by the principal agent but is caught in a state of poverty that is difficult to overcome. However, revelations are made that the pain endured for survival was a process to secure an ego and of the will to overcome an absurd reality through a class awakening. The important point here is that 『Out of the Dollhouse』 by Chae Man-sik exceeds the relationship between ‘individual and individual (Nora/husband)’ of Ibsen and forms the confrontational structure of ‘individual and society (Nora/group)’. In other words, Chae Man-sik changes the small space of Ibsen’s ‘house’ into the large space of ‘out of the house’, materializing factual embodiment. Like this, Chae Man-sik is presenting possibilities of greater practical ‘female liberation’ through literary intertextuality.
