국문 초록

지방자치제도는 한국 민주주의 공고화의 중요한 제도적 요소가 되었다. 하지만 지방자치 발전에도 불구하고, 최근 한국 정치는 몇 가지 위기 징후가 발견된다. 그중의 하나가 정치 양극화이다. 정치 양극화는 이미 선진 민주주의 국가에서도 민주주의 위험요인으로 지목되었다. 한국 역시 2000년대 초반부터 시작된 이념 양극화가 최근에는 성과 세대, 지역으로 확장되고 있다. 이 연구는 2022년 8기 지방선거 결과에 주목하여, 한국 유권자의 정치 양극화를 분석하고자 한다. 분석 대상은 경기도지사 선거 결과를 선정했다. 연구 방법론은 2차 자료와 이메일 설문조사, 중앙선거관리위원회 자료 분석을 적용했다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 남성과 여성의 양극화가 한국 정치과정에서 강화되고 있다. 둘째, 세대별로는 50대 이하와 이상 집단의 양극화가 나타나고 있다. 셋째, 경기도 지역별 유권자 양극화도 확인된다. 넷째, 지방선거에서 이념 양극화도 강화되고 있다. 마지막으로, 다양한 양극화 요인이 결합된 다층적 양극화가 심화될 우려가 있다.

영문 초록

As the local autonomy system developed, it became an important factor in the consolidation of democracy in Korea. However, despite the development of the local autonomy system, Korean politics also has risk factors. One of them is political polarization. Political polarization has already been pointed out as a serious risk factor for democracy in advanced democracies. In Korea, too, ideological polarization began in the early 2000s. Polarization has recently been extended to gender polarization and regional polarization. This study aims to analyze the political polarization of Korean voters, focusing on the results of the 8th local elections in 2022. The subjects of this study were the results of the Gyeonggi governor election. The research methodology applied secondary data, e-mail survey, and data analysis of the National Election Commission. As a result of the study, first, the polarization between men and women is intensifying in the Korean political process. Second, there is a polarization between those in their 50s and younger and older generations. Third, the polarization of voters in Gyeonggi-do is also confirmed. Fourth, it was confirmed that ideological polarization was also intensifying in the local elections. Finally, there is a risk that multi-layered polarization in which various polarization factors are combined will intensify.
