충북지역 기호흥학회 지회의 활동과 성격

국문 초록

본고는 기호흥학회 충북지역 지회의 활동과 의의, 그리고 한계를 살 펴보았다. 기호흥학회는 1908년 조직된 계몽운동단체로서 흥학을 통해 국권을 회복하고자 했고, 이를 위해 지회를 설립하였다. 충북지역에서 는 청주･충주･제천･영동지회가 설립되었는데, 전현직 관료가 주축을 이 룬 가운데 청주와 제천에 한해서는 관료뿐만 아니라 상인들과 함께 군 인 또는 종교인도 가담하여 활동을 하고 있었다. 충북지역 지회원들은 다양한 활동을 전개했다. 여러 사립학교를 설 립･운영･지원하고, 국채보상운동에 참여하는 등 국권회복을 위한 활발 한 운동을 해나간 것이다. 또한 지회원이었던 김태희･황학수 등은 경술 국치 이후로도 독립운동을 지속하였다. 따라서 기호흥학회 충북지역 지 회는 이 시기 충북지역 국권회복운동을 표징하는 대표적 단체였다고 해 도 과언이 아니다. 단, 인사청탁활동을 벌인 손해붕이나 국망과 함께 친 일로 전도된 민영은 등의 행태는 기호흥학회 충북지역 지회의 한계를 잘 보여준다.

영문 초록

This paper examined the activities, significance, and limitations of Kiho- heunghakhoi branch in Chungbuk area. As an enlightenment movement organization organized in 1908, the Kihoheunghakhoi tried to restore national sovereignty through Heunghak, and to this end, it established a branch. In Chungbuk, Cheongju, Chungju, Jecheon, and Yeongdong branches were established, and while former and current officials were the main pillars, not only bureaucrats but also soldiers or religious people participated in Cheongju and Jecheon. The members of Kihoheunghakhoi branch in Chungbuk area carried out various activities. They established, operated, and supported various private schools and participated in the government bond compensation campaign to restore national sovereignty. In addition, Kim Tae-hee and Hwang Hak- soo, who were branch members, continued their independence movements even after Japan-Korea Treaty of 1910. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that Kihoheunghakhoi branch in Chungbuk area was a representative organization representing the movement to restore national sovereignty in Chungbuk during this period. However, after Japan-Korea Treaty of 1910 of Son Hae-bung, who engaged in Personnel solicitation, and Min Young- eun, who was also pro-Japanese, shows the limitations of Kihoheunghakhoi branch in Chungbuk area. This paper investigated the organization and activities Kihoheunghakhoi branch in Chungbuk area and the aspects of the branch members, but due to the lack of data, it was not possible to sufficiently review some branch members. furthermore to investigate character of organization the activities of branch members were examined only during the Korean Empire so one way to solve this problem is to expand their activities to Japanese colonialera, and this will be a future task.
