학교자치 개념에 대한 교원의 인식 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 학교자치 개념에 대한 교원의 인식을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 초등학교 교사 10명, 초등학교 교장 5명, 중학교 교사 10명, 중학교 교장 5명을 대상으로 초점집단인터뷰를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 교원들은 학교자치를 세 가지 차원으로 인식하고 있었다. 첫째, 가치론적 차원에서 학교자치는 민주시민 교육의 이상적 가치를 지향한다는 것이다. 둘째, 교육활동 차원에서 학교자치는 학교 교육활동의 우선순위를 찾는 과정 혹은 결과라는 것이다. 셋째, 실용적 차원에서 학교자치는 적절하고 효과적인 학교 조직운영의 기준이라는 것이다. 이 연구결과를 바탕으로 학교자치의 개념 정의에 있어서 다양한 구성원의 포괄, 교육활동의 직접적 명시, 학교 효과성과의 연계 등을 고려할 필요가 있다는 점을 시사점으로 제시하였다. 본 연구는 기존의 이론적 차원에 머물렀던 학교자치의 개념을 학교 현장의 초등학교 및 중학교 교원들의 인식을 근거로 확인하고, 확장하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the perception of teachers' on the concept of school autonomy. To this end, ten elementary school teachers participate in focus group interviews, five elementary school principals, ten middle school teachers, and five middle school principals. The results showed that teachers perceived school autonomy in three ways. First, school autonomy orients toward the ideal value of democratic citizenship education in terms of value. Second, in terms of the educational activity-centered approach, school autonomy is the process or result of finding the priority of school educational activities. Third, in terms of practice, school autonomy is the standard for appropriate and effective school organizational management. Based on the results, to comprehensively define school autonomy, we suggested that it is necessary to include various members and educational activities; linked with school effectiveness. This study is meaningful in that it confirmed and expanded the concept of school autonomy, which had remained at the theoretical level, based on the perceptions of elementary and middle school teachers who are practice it in the school field.
