국문 초록

본 연구는 노인의 우울이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향력에 대한 인지기능의 매개효과 규명을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 한국고용정보원에서 구축한 고령화연구패널조사 2018년도 7차자료의 중고령 노인 6940명을 분석에 활용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 노인의 우울이 높아질수록 삶의 만족도에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 노인의 우울과 삶의 만족도의 관계를 인지기능이 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 노인의 우울이 높아질수록 노인의 인지기능이 낮아지며 이는 다시 삶의 만족도를 떨어뜨리는 효과를 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 노년기 만성적으로 찾아올 수 있는 우울이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 부정적 요인을 완화하기 위해서 우울에 대한 개입과 더불어 인지기능을 유지 향상시키기 위한 적극적이고 다양한 서비스와 정책 마련의 필요성을 보여준다. 이러한 연구결과에 기반하여 노년기 삶의 만족도를 향상시키기 위한 우울 및 인지기능 관리의 이론적 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the effects of depression in the elderly on life satisfaction with particular emphasis on the mediation effect of their cognitive functions. Based on the 2018 7th survey of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) from the Korea Employment Information Service, we first find the negative effect of depression in the elderly on their life satisfaction. Moreover, our finding suggests that the cognitive function mediates the negative effect of depression in the elderly on their life satisfaction. That is, the increasing elderly depression suppresses their cognitive function, which then reduces their life satisfaction. The findings suggest the need for a variety of services and policies to remedy the depression of elderlies and maintain their cognitive function to address the negative effect of depression. Based on our findings, we provide both theoretical and practical implications for the management of depression and cognitive function to improve the life satisfaction of elderlies.
