『日本書紀(일본서기)』의 “日本府(일본부)” 구상과 그 모티브에 관한 試論(시론)

국문 초록

『日本書紀』에 기술된 소위 ‘日本府’觀의 성립은 『日本書紀』 편찬단계의 소산이라든가, 혹은 후대의 이데올로기적 관념이 투영된 것이라는 종래의 일반적 지적은 타당하다. 이 점에 대해서는 필자도 같은 생각이다. 본고에서는 ‘日本府’ 표기가 『日本書紀』에 등장하게 되는 과정 및 그 모티브에 관해 살펴보았다. 『日本書紀』 속에 ‘日本府’가 등장하게 되는 것은 우선 크게 두 가지 계통을 생각할 수 있다. 하나는 왜인들의 자체 기록이 있어 거기서 유래되었을 가능성이며 또 하나는 상대적으로 ‘日本府’ 기사가 풍부한 흠명천황기에 『백제본기』가 다수 인용되어 있기에 혹시 『百濟本記』에서 먼저 유래되었을 가능성이 그것이다. 그렇지만 본고의 검토 결과 왜국이나 백제 모두 적어도 660년 백제의 멸망 무렵까지는 양 사회 모두 ‘府’制와 별로 연관성이 없었다는 사실을 알았다. 따라서 ‘日本府’ 용어가 빈출하는 6세기 당대에 실제 ‘日本府’ 라는 용어가 만들어져 있었을 가능성은 없다. 왜국에 ‘府’ 제도가 성립할 수 있는 결정적 계기는 7세기 후반 백제의 멸망을 계기로 한반도에 모습을 드러내는 당의 도독부(도호부) 체제였던 것으로 보이며 왜국 최초의 ‘府’ 표기로 확인되는 것은 ‘筑紫都督府’였다. 이러한 계기성에 의해 왜국에서도 본격적으로 ‘府’ 제의 성립이 촉진되기 시작하는데 그 최종 귀결점은 역시 (筑紫)大宰府의 성립이었다. 필자는 이러한 축자대재-축자대재부의 성립이야말로 ‘일본부’의 표기, 개념 등과 기본적으로 맥을 같이하고 있다고 생각하고 있다. 즉 ‘일본부’ 표기의 직접적 모티브는 바로 이 축자대재 - 축자대재부의 형성에서 구할 수 있지 않을까 하는 것이다. 대재부를 모델로 하여 일본부를 구상하였을 가능성은 전술한 것처럼 양자를 대비해보면 몇 가지 측면에서 매우 유사한 성격이 부각된다는 점에서도 확인해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Conventionally pointed out general notion on the establishment of ‘Nihonhu’ concept as a progeny of Nihonshoki compilation process or projection of ideological concept from later period is adequate. The writer of this paper also has the same thought on this point. In this paper, the process and the motif in the appearance of ‘Nihonhu’ on Nihonshoki were explored. The appearance of ‘Nihonhu’ in Nihonshoki can be considered in two major sources. One is the possibility of originating from the own record of Wajin. The other is originating from Baekje Bonki first because relatively large number of articles on ‘Nihonhu’ cited Baekje Bonki. However, after careful review in this paper, the fact that Baekje and Wa both societies had no relevance to prefecture (Hu) system at least until the collapse of Baekje at 660. Therefore, there is no possibility of using the term ‘Nihonhu’ at the time of sixth century in which the term ‘Nihonhu’ appears frequently . The crucial opportunity that could establish Hu system in Wa appeared to be Todoku-hu system of Tang, which appeared the figure on the Korean peninsula in the wake of the destruction of Baekje in the late 7th century. And the first confirmation of ``Hu`` written in Wa country was Tsukushi Todoku-hu. With this kind of opportunity, the establishment of Hu system begun to be promoted in Wa and the final consequence point of that was the establishment of Tazaihu. The author believes that this establishment of Tsukushi-Tazai and Tsukushi-Tazaihu has coincided basically with the inscription and concept of ‘Nihonhu’. In other words, the direct motif of writing ‘Nihonhu’ can be found in the establishment of this Tsukushi-Tazai and Tsukushi-Tazaihu. Designing ‘Nihonhu’ from Tazaihu model was also confirmed in the very similar characteristics in several aspects when comparing both.
