국문 초록

『소년조선일보』는 조선일보사에서 1937년 1월 10일부터 1940년 8월 10일까지 매주 일요일마다 발행한 4면짜리 어린이신문이다. 당시 조선일보사 출판부에 재직 중이던 윤석중을 비롯하여, 학예부 기자들이 편집에 참여했다. 『소년조선일보』는 제1면은 사진 화보, 제2면은 보도 기사, 제3면은 학습면, 제4면은 문예 및 오락면으로 꾸며졌는데, 발행 초기부터 지면 구성이 안정적이고 짜임새가 있었다. 그런데 이중 제1면의 사진 화보는 전시체제기의 어린이 미디어로서 『소년조선일보』의 특성을 단적으로 보여 주므로 주목을 요한다. 사진화보들은 첫째, 어린이의 천진무구함을 전시하거나, 둘째, 교양 지식 정보를 전달했으며, 셋째, 침략 전쟁을 미화하고 선전하는 기능을 했다. 전쟁체제기 어린이 미디어는 현실과 격절된 순수한 ‘동심’의 공간을 마련하고자 하였으나, 지상(紙上)의 ‘어린이의 세계’는 전쟁과 폭력으로부터 안전한 방공호가 되지는 못했을 뿐아니라 직·간접적 협력과 동원의 장소가 되어 갔다. 이는 근대의 대표적인 헤테로토피아 공간인 어린이의 세계가 구조적으로 취약함을 증거하는 것이라고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Boy’s Chosun Daily was a four-page children’s newspaper published every Sunday from January 10, 1937, to August 10, 1940. At the time, Yoon, Seok-Joong in the publishing department and reporters in the academic arts of Chosun Daily Inc, participated in editing. With pictorials on the fi rst page, press articles on the second page, lessons on the third page, and literary and entertainment on the fourth page, Boy’s Chosun Daily composition was stable and organized from the beginning of the publication. However, it is important to pay attention to the pictorials on the front page because they showed the characteristics of Boy’s Chosun Daily as a children’s media during the wartime. Th e pictorials fi rst displayed children’s naivete, or secondly, communicated cultural knowledge and information, and thirdly, they served to glorify and propagate the war of aggression. Th e children’s media during the wartime wanted to create a pure space for “innocence of childhood” that was insulated from reality. However, the “children’s world” in the newspaper was not a safe shelter from war and violence, but instead, it became a place of direct and indirect cooperation and mobilization. Th is can be seen as evidence of a structural weakness in the world of children, a typical heterotopia space of modern times.
